I'm pretty sure it's just a shirt with the top button done up. As Capaldi or the designer said, "no frills".
Here's a much larger resolution of the publicity shot. http://i.imgur.com/WaGmC4i.jpg Hopefully, it will allow better analysis of the ensemble. Sincerely, Bill
Oh yeah, thanks dude! Yeah, that's definitely just a shirt with the top button done up as opposed to a cravat. The shoes look to me like shinny black versions of Smith's later shoes but with thicker heels/soles which give the elusion of Eccleston's doc Martin's. I've also noticed a ring on his hand, something that I noticed Hartnel also had. I think those might be Smiths trousers too. They're certainly similar.
The pants detract from it for me. They look to off the store shelf and the color of the pants isn't quite right for the coat, not that I know much about style. Maybe they're not the real pants. The coat is fine though. Mr Awe
I don't know, I was reading through the other thread to see if anyone was close and I just read your prediction and it seems mostly off? Mr Awe
I like, despite the weird pose. It has hints of both 1 and 3 there, I think. The little splash of color in the lining is a nice touch.
Since the ring is upon his left hand, "ring" finger position, it might just be his wedding band. (Is he married?) Hartnell wore a garishly large dark stone upon his right hand, middle (or "bird") finger. Sincerely, Bill
I think that's the underside of a couple of cufflinks. Why he'd have two cufflinks on one cuff is unclear to me, but then, I don't have a good understanding of cufflinks. I'm not sure about those shoes -- they're not good for running in.
Well that's fine. It wouldn't exactly be a bad thing in my mind if there was a lot less frantic running around in the new series...
I kinda wonder now if Moffat or Capaldi already had in mind the basic tie-less look when they shot the end of TOTD. The two costumes really do flow well into each other.
First impressions, I like it, though it's maybe a tad too simple, though that's better than a tad too whacky any day of the week. The important thing is that he looks comfortable in it, and it does suit him. Definitely feels quite Pertwee'ish, though whilst the pose is pure 3rd Doctor, there's a hint of Four in there too.
That was just what I thought he should and what I wanted him to look like. I'm sure somewhere whether it was here or another forum I said I think he may be the first doctor with top button swag. I definitely had that idea in my mind anyway.
Yeah, I think you're probably right. The shirt looks a little rumpled there, plus the shadow made me wonder, but the larger picture makes it easier to see.
I'm wondering if that's just his normal wedding band on his left hand. It would be too much of a plot point to leave it on. I did a quick search for pics of his left hand when not in character, and he is usually wearing a ring (Malcolm Tucker and some of his other characters were definitely not). It looks to be a fairly ornate ring as well (i.e. not just a simple gold ring), so it's probably hidden in the picture they decided to release simply because he forgot to take it off for this promo shoot. And if it's in fact part of the character and DOESN'T mean River, then we now have a reason for River to be pissed the next time we see her. Mark
