This site was always particularly useful for finding the weekly Clone Wars episodes :) http://www.rlslog.net

I seem to recall reading somewhere that Pablo Hidalgo is being consulted both on Rebels and the new movie. But I can't find the link right away ...

Well during a Clone Wars 3 parter Palpatine was toying with the idea until the Jedi wrecked it. There's nothing to say he didn't try again as soon as the Jedi were removed as a possible inconvenience.

Wouldn't be the first idea he tried again after he thought he ironed all the flaws out of it.

If he could get access to more holocrons, which seems possible once the Jedi purge had begun and he had access to the temple.

Once the Temple belonged to the Sith and was under Imperial military protection there's no telling what the Emperor and Vader accessed and what schemes they may have come up with. Thousands of years' worth of Jedi knowledge was at their fingertips, and some of that knowledge no doubt helped Palpatine in his secluded studies of immortality.

They do have free full episodes of some of the Disney XD shows on the website, so it is possible.

Also wouldn't be the first time he planned to have a spare apprentice if the current one failed.

Not just Jedi knowledge. I mean where else would the Jedi store captured Sith holocrons, dangerous artefacts and the like? I'd be willing to bet there are thing locked away in vaults deep beneath the temple that even the council didn't know about.

Undoubtedly. In fact, I'm pretty sure some of the books and graphic novels over the years have described ancient, potentially dangerous Sith holocrons and other Dark Side artifacts kept in protective storage in the Jedi Archives and deep in the bowels of the structure where only a select few members of the Order even knew of their existence. Access to these objects would only further enhance the power of Vader and the Emperor after the birth of the Empire since one or both of them would have unfettered free rein of the old Temple to look at and use whatever they wished.

Given the way Palpatine operates, there's no way he'd give Vader free reign. At most he'd give him a few titbits and keep the best toys to himself.

Hell, some of the more nasty things may be just as dangerous to him as anyone else. Some of those old Sith Lords are still floating around and none of them were exactly known for playing well with others...*especially* their peers.

You mean "Sith spirits"? I doubt we'll see them turn up in places like Rebels, given that Lucas apparently vetoed their inclusion in the Mortis arc of TCW.

Luceno's EU books get into this area, while somewhat mysteriously claiming that some of the Sith holocrons held by the Jedi were a kind of "Sith disinformation".

I don't think he vetoed it so much as they just decided against using those images relatively late into production for story/dramatic reasons. Indeed I think they actually got as far as building the assets. If Lucas had vetoed then it would have never gotten out of the script phase.

Besides, I'm not suggesting they they should show up, just that there's potential for hijinks if stray Sith artefacts get loose, or rival (i.e. not Sith) dark side force users crop up.

Haven't read any of those, but the impression I've always had is that the ancient Sith were all about finding new and more powerful uses for the dark side. Their holocrons would serve the duel purpose of keeping their secrets out of their rivals' hands any yet preserving their individual legacies.

No wonder that civilization collapsed if every generation they had to keep going through cycles of information hoarding and re-discovery.

I like his color scheme and Swiss Army Knife design. He reminds me of Ralph McQuarrie's original concept artwork for R2-D2 from the seventies. Maybe that's where they got some of their ideas for Chopper.

ETA: Just watched the video on the link, and yep....they went back to Ralph's original artwork!

the most recent (i think) issue of Star Wars Insider has an interview with Greg Weisman and he said they've been looking at a lot of McQuarrie artwork for inspiration and utilizing a lot of his unused designs.

I just read an amusing comment over on Facebook that was attributed to the production staff: "If R2-D2 is your favorite dog then Chopper is a cat."

Yeah, that was included in the video, too. I do like the orange color scheme - seems very 70s to me. Sounds like an entertaining character.

There were a couple of bright Creamsicle-orange astromechs rolling around in the OT films that I always liked so I'm enjoying Chopper's color scheme.

His jets look like my preferred lightsaber color in the videogames.
