Ah, OK, I must've mis-remembered a line of dialogue, about "my sister" somewhere along the way that led me to believe she was the Commander, or at least another sister

(For example, maybe The Doctor went back and saved her (Or he had a profound impact on her, that allowed her to save herself), and she became a force of good in the Universe)

In AGMGTW it is said that the Doctor prevented Vastra from murdering innocent people in response to the death of "her sisters" as a result of the construction of the London Underground. Clearly a different incident.

Both. The Doctor specifically said these were a different branch of the species than the ones he'd encountered before, but it was a throwaway line to handwave the makeup change.

Well, according to The Brilliant Book 2012, Vastra once made a living as the main act in Jago's stage show, "Monstre Gathering," to the Doctor's disapproval.

Both Capaldi and Matt say "Is it The Doctor?" in unison to Clara, and then Clara hands Capaldi the phone and Twelve and Eleven have a brief chat about adjusting to everything

Maybe I'm out to lunch here, but I kind of get the impression this is perhaps the final scene of the premiere. Just my thought anyway.

At a distance save for the colour and bow tie, Capaldi's costume does look quit a bit like Smiths. I think he should maybe have some looser fitting jeans/trousers.

Certainly the way it's buttoned, only the top one with the rest undone, gives the illusion he has a bit of "paunch" to his belly, despite how slim he really is.

I thought the buttoned-up thing looked weird at first too, but Jonny Lee Miller has rocked the same look on Elementary for the last two seasons so I've kind of gotten used to it by now.

Naw, it's the right size, I have a similar one, its a topcoat rather than an overcoat.

^ Correct size or not, it makes him look like he's got big hips in some of the stills when I don't think he really does. Not the most flattering!

Although the overall look is fine, I'm not thrilled with both the top button of the coat and shirt being buttoned. The coat button just looks weird to me and the top shirt button just makes him look uptight. Although, who knows, maybe he is.

I don't mind the collar buttoned, tie or not, as I'd rather not see his "waddle".

Petty of me, but there you go.
