Hai! We are long overdue for another Doctor into martial arts.

The Doctor may literally have passed over a thousand years since he's karate-chopped anyone. He definitely should break out the Venusian Aikido. Or at least some really mean tai-chi.

The latest word from Moffat about what Capaldi's Doctor will be like:

Sounds more like Colin Baker than Tom, from that description.

Sounds promising, but what I really want to know is if they'll be changing the tone of the rest of the show at all. Or is Moffat just going to keep the storytelling as hyper and fast-paced as before, with the same nonstop witty banter and bouncing around through time as we've seen with Matt Smith?

Because if so, I'm not sure having an older or slightly more serious Doctor is going to make much of a difference...

That's *exactly* what I've been worried about since when Moffat first started describing the new Doctor as "difficult" and being tough on Clara! The way Capaldi lurched at Clara at first made me think he was going to try to strangle her ala Six/Clara.

Pertwee was difficult and condescending in an entirely different way though. So perhaps more Pertwee? But, Pertwee wasn't difficult on his companions, more paternalistic.

Although the aspect of her working at the school keeping her weird, older Doctor a secret sounds somewhat akin to Susan and her unseen, crotchety Grandfather!

The thing is though, Capaldi is in infinitely better actor than Colin Baker. So I think he'd be able to carry off a rude and abrasive doctor and do it in such a way as not to alienate audiences. I can see where they were going with Six - I just don't think Colin was good enough to manage it.

^ Agreed. There is hope. And, agree that Colin wasn't a good enough actor to manage what was intended. But, it worries me still!

Moffat has been open about not enjoying Colin Baker's stuff (which being polite about baker) so I doubt he is drawing from that era...

I think it was probably more that Colin Baker was directed to be much more nasty and abrasive than he should have been.

I don't want another fucking Hartnel. I'd much rather have something akin to Colin Baker, I don't get all the hate for C.B.

Rude and ill-mannered can be incredibly entertaining if the right actor is doing it. Sounds like we might be getting some Doc Martin in our Dr. Who. :)

The actor, and the scripting. Sherlock Holmes easily comes off so in pursuit of his quarry. Give a reason for it that explains the rudeness for the audience and they can be entertained even when the character is an utter jerk.

Capaldi on mock horse likely for close-up shots

The 12th doctor is wearing victorian era nightwear.

He'll be wearing that for most of the episode and likely select his outfit at the end of it.

It's a costume, but just a story relevant one before he slips into his trademark Doctor costume. :)
