Looking for a new anti virus/internet security software

My Norton Internet Security Software license expires within 30 days of this post. I am not satisfied with it. I am looking for a new anti virus/internet security software. Any advice ?

I do shop online. Protecting credit card information is a priority for me. Removing viruses and malware is also an priority.

Highly recommend NOD32 if you're willing to pay. Been using it for over 5 years without a problem.

Seconded. I started with the anti-virus and moved on to Smart Security.

I also have Windows Defender running and never had any conflict issues with both running together.

Several years ago, I had Norton and I liked it, but I switched to 64 bit Windows and Norton wasn't there yet.

The best anti-virus/security programs will cost some money, but it's money well spent.

I also started to experience problems with Norton once i switched from 32-Bit to 64-Bit Window. Before that it was doing it's job well.

There is absolutely no need to pay for antivirus software on Windows.

This. Enough studies have been done to show that freeware and payware AV programs perform at about the same level. On top of that, Microsoft Security Essentials lacks something that many AV programs have, and that's bloat. You won't get it with MSE.

Hello,

Sorry to hear that you are not satisfied with the Norton product. Can you please share your feedback on the Norton products so I can pass it to the concerned team?

Thanks!

I think, at the time, Norton Utilities had no 64 bit compatible version and the anti-virus (Enterprise?) that was compatible was aimed at businesses and was mind-bogglingly expensive.

Hello,

Sorry for the trouble. I am Vineeth and I am from the Norton Support team.

Norton products are absoultely compatible with the 64 bit OS. Do you remember the Norton product version you had? What were the problems you had after switching to 64 bit OS.

Thanks!

Thats almost funny. I am curious. Do you sit on all internet forums and look for posts to which you must reply? Its a Norton product, its like giving Mad Cow to a Cow on purpose. They serve no valid purpose and are filled with bloat.

Nope. No legitimate support representative would be anywhere other than their company's support site or service. Going anywhere else, and identifying one's self as official support, invites lawsuits, especially if that "advice" doesn't work out, so no, this person would not be an official Norton Support tech. I would advise not accepting any advice from this person. Most certainly, I would suggest you do not share any kind of information with this person, neither should you visit any website they ask you to visit.

"Vineeth from Norton Support" apparently does this on numerous (some high-profile) sites and I couldn't find any instances of him spamming, providing bad information, or attempting to deceive anyone. He's also very active on the official Norton support site. It's possible he is a volunteer rather than a paid employee, but I see no reason to act based on his appearance here at this point.

Thanks for looking, anyway, Robert.

Well, one surely must credit them for having extremely attentive crawlers and quick volunteers or service technitians! As long as Vineeth doesn't spam but genuinely tries to help, I have no prob with him either.

I've tried out quite a few antivirus programmes over the decades but keep returning to Norton. In various computer magazines' tests they always reach the top 3.

The only negative point imo is that Norton programmes invariably have huge issues with running other anti-virus software on the same computer. That, dear Norton developers, is something that you might want to work on! We customers like to be doubly sure. No software is perfect and combining two that complement oneanother brings maximum security. Someting Norton's software still deprives us users from.

Customer service is excellent, though.

It's damned expensive (another fat minus), but you can get it cheaper if you buy a license for several PCs and share with your family members. This way it's only a few bucks per user.

Been using Avast! and haven't run into any real issues, other than having to uninstall it and reinstall it once a year. It's saved my bacon before and I really like it. Also been using Malwarebytes and SUPERAntispyware and they're both good programs too. Hitman pro is pretty good along with adwcleaner and HijackThis. They're all good programs to have in order to keep an eye out for programs and the like that don't belong on your computer.

Also just reinstalled Spybot: Search and Destroy. Had it on my old computer some years back and it's still really good.

We used to have Avast at my office for years. It's really good for normal uses. We only use a different (custom-made) software now because as a state office we have to follow extra-tight security standards.

Avast Internet Security has worked really well for me. Seems to identify fewer false positives than other virus software. I've used 4 or 5 of them now.

I still use Emisoft anti-malware, probably because the the previous incarnation of it years ago always worked well for me. Spywareblaster too. Also use VPN.
