You're missing the point. Imagination and creativity are more important than an adrenaline rush. Skydiving is nothing. Spelunking is cool, but still does not negate imagination and creativity. The Arts & Sciences are what makes us human. You sit around watching scifi shows and movies or read scifi books...^^ Anybody who would reject you for that reason is not worth being with.
Also, one person's idea of self improvement may not be another person's. Like the Star Wars thing. Genre fans are often rejected by mundanes. Why? Because they have more imagination and interests than mundanes. And I don't consider conforming to the lowest denominator to be self improvement.
That's a bit more mundane than someone going skydiving or spelunking...

During college, I came back from a year abroad, and the first night I was home there was a fraternity party that my brothers had set me up for. The girl's name was Stephanie, and (I thought) we really hit it off.
At the end of the night, she told me "I'm being baptized into the Mormon Church tomorrow."

Haha...well, I guess you could say she became a "pearl of great price?"...hahaha...(mormon pun)...no I'm not a Mormon..I get what you are saying, I too thought I had this girl figured out, I had thought the intrest was mutual. Well, I was wrong. kinda made me second guess my ability to read people.
One of the defining traits of humans is that we're explorers. Spelunkers have made some amazing discoveries. You're missing the point. No one ever explored the full potential of human experience from mom's basement.
Seriously? You're missing the point. Imagination and creativity are more important than an adrenaline rush. Skydiving is nothing. My god, that post is pure arrogance. One of the more close-minded statements I've seen on the board.![]()
Certainly. That would be the Arts & Sciences. Exploring is inspired by imagination and curiosity. One of the defining traits of humans is that we're explorers. Seriously? That's very disappointing. I know we're not living in a very romantic age, but that's a sad statement to see on a board ostensibly inspired by the imagination and creativity of SF.

Yes, exploration is inspired by those two things. But it's also inspired by other things. I doubt some of the European explorers had art and science on their minds when they went to North and South America. Some of them went to escape difficult lives in Europe. Some came to convert people to the Church. Others came for sheer greed - they wanted gold, gems, furs, anything to make them rich. As for art... they destroyed an incredible amount of art and writings set down by artistic, literate people. This is a cultural treasure that the human race will never recover, unless somebody, someday, invents a time machine to go back and record what was there before it was destroyed.Seriously? You're missing the point. Imagination and creativity are more important than an adrenaline rush. Skydiving is nothing. Spelunking is cool, but still does not negate imagination and creativity.
