Most Anticipated 2014 Movies

I'll limit it to ten...

1. Hobbit 3: the LOTR franchise will always hold a special place in my heart
2. Transformers 4: they're dumb and loud but so gorgeous to look at
3. Captain America 2: I think this one will have a much more interesting story than the first and I'm looking forward to all the characters in it
4. Guardians of the Galaxy: this one is a big question mark but I hope it's awesome
5. X-Men Days of Future Past: can't wait to see the two casts crossover!
6. Amazing Spider-Man 2: I was underwhelmed by the first one, but the sheer number of villains in this one are exciting!
7. How to Train Your Dragon 2: love the first one
8. Jupiter Ascending: trailer looks gorgeous, but the story maybe way too generic, we'll see
9. Interstellar: I know nothing about this aside from Chris Nolan + scifi
10. Mockingjay: bring on the war!

Needless to say, I'm psyched about GODZILLA . . .

(Did I mention there's a novelization?)

1. Interstellar
Christopher Nolan. Enough said.

2. X-Men: Days of Future Past
So much X-Men goodness. Besides, I would watch Sirs Patrick and Ian read the yellow pages for hours on end.

3. The Grand Budapest Hotel.
This looks to be Wes Anderson's most ambitious film yet with a cast that's larger than anything he's done before.

4. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
Andy Serkis, Andy Serkis, Andy Serkis.

5. The Hobbit: There and Back Again
No Andy Serkis this time around, but Benedict Cumberbatch is doing the same thing.

6. The Monuments Men

A killer cast in an interesting story directed by George Clooney.

7. Noah
Normally, I don't go for Biblical stories, but it's Darren Arnofsky.

8. Exodus
Again, I swear I don't go for Biblical stories, but this time it's Ridley Scott.

9. The Lego Movie
I think this will have the right mixture of silliness and restraint for my favorite childhood toy.

10. Sin City: A Dame to Kill For
I've never read the graphic novels, but the first Sin City was one of the artistically interesting films I've seen in recent years.

Honorable mentions: I'm interested in seeing Godzilla, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1, but I'm not super excited about them.

I guess it'd be all the Marvel films, Godzilla, Train Your Dragon 2, Apes, and Mockingjay, of the ones I'm aware of. I'm sure I'll see Hobbit and be impressed by the visuals, but it's more a matter of curiosity than real eagerness. Not sure about the Nolan and Wachowski films. I saw a trailer for Jupiter Ascending yesterday, but I'm not sure what to make of it. I'm hopeful that the RoboCop remake will be worthwhile, but what I've seen and heard so far is ambiguous. I read a positive advance review of the Peabody & Sherman movie, but I'm not entirely convinced.

I've slowly been working on a list like this for my Letterboxd account. I currently have nine lined up, so I'll list those. They are in order of release date, rather than anticipation level (except for the last one, which currently does not have a scheduled release date as far as I can find).

1) The Grand Budapest Hotel
I'm not well-versed in Wes Anderson's filmography overall, but I loved Moonrise Kingdom so this is a must-see for me.

2) Veronica Mars
I loved the television show and backed the Kickstarter project at $200. I'll absolutely see this on opening day.

3) Bad Words
It was on the 2011 Hollywood Black List of unproduced screenplays and is Jason Bateman's directorial debut. Consider my curiosity piqued.

4) Noah
I've seen all of Aronofsky's movies so far with the exception of Pi, and I'd consider myself a big fan.

5) Tomorrowland
Brad Bird's secretive collaboration with Damon Lindelof has me very curious.

6) X-Men: Days of Future Past
Bryan Singer's return to the X-Men franchise? Count me in.

7) Gone Girl
David Fincher has a more mixed filmography for me than Aronofsky, but his name alone will still guarantee that I see this.

8) Interstellar
Along the lines of Aronofsky, I'm definitely a Chris Nolan fan.

9) Inherent Vice
Paul Thomas Anderson. Do I need to say anything else?

I read a positive advance review of the Peabody & Sherman movie, but I'm not entirely convinced.
I'm cautiously optimistic about that film as well. It looks like it could be good, but at the same time, it looks like it'll stray far off from its source material.

5) Tomorrowland
Brad Bird's secretive collaboration with Damon Lindelof has me very curious.

7) Gone Girl
David Fincher has a more mixed filmography for me than Aronofsky, but his name alone will still guarantee that I see this.
Damn, I forgot about Tomorrowland and I didn't even know about Gone Girl. Both of those are must sees.

People have already mentioned a lot of the films I'm really looking forward to, so I'll cite Big Hero 6 as one that interests me, as a test case. It's a Disney Animation adaptation of an ultra-obscure Marvel Comics property -- if successful, it opens doors to a lot of possibilities in the future.
