I asked out a coworker once and she said to me "I don't go to lunch." I figured she was going to follow it up with: "...with a coworker." But nope, she just left it at "I don't go to lunch." It was really strange to me, but I moved on.

I was pursued by a very beautiful and enchanting girl once, but ultimately rejected for being an evil doer, which was a shame because she was really something.

But it felt kind of good, to be honest.

When some people call you an evil-doer, it can be considered a compliment. :rommie:

My lady friend says she loves me but can't stand me, so..

What would worry me more than rejection is if a woman started coming on to me. She must be crazy I'd say, schitzo, or wants money...I might have lost one or two catches over the decades that way...or not.

I asked a girl out in middle school, and she told me that while she had a boyfriend already, that if she broke up with him she would go out with me. Er, thanks, I guess I'll just stand in line, then...?

Another girl told me that while she really liked me, she couldn't date me because she had an online boyfriend who lives 3 states away that she had never met. I had known her for years and we lived in the same city.

Honestly, other than as a possible pointer towards self-improvement, why someone is rejecting you should be irrelevant, because it all comes down to the fact that they're not interested.

I once had someone who was quite interested in me and there were a million reasons why I wasn't interested in him outside of being friends but I tried to dissuade him in a jesting manner to make it less painful.

"Dude.. you have never seen Star Wars. It would not work out."

The funny thing is that in some ways it summed up why it would never work out. If a person gets to their 40's which I think he was at the time and has never seen Star Wars there are going to be very fundamental differences between us.

I agree. I'm all for the different strokes, different folks and "opposites attract" thing, but there's just something a potential partner has to like for it to work. Star Wars is one of them.

It probably seems silly to most. And it really isn't even the Star Wars thing itself--I mean I'm hardly super-die hard about it. It's just a good touchstone for someone's personality type.

Also what does it say to get to that age and not have bothered to check it out? Something you've heard of and seen pictures from everywhere? There's a basic lack of curiosity, a lack of desire to know what this thing is that is so prominent in everyday culture.

But sometimes you get rejected, and self improvement is impossible, like the reason I used to be constantly rejected.

It's not my fault I need a wheelchair to get around.

^^ Anybody who would reject you for that reason is not worth being with.

Also, one person's idea of self improvement may not be another person's. Like the Star Wars thing. Genre fans are often rejected by mundanes. Why? Because they have more imagination and interests than mundanes. And I don't consider conforming to the lowest denominator to be self improvement.

:rommie: Win. Sod that guy. :p

I recently introduced a late-20s Chinese gal to Star Wars; she hadn't even heard of it before. Don't think she'd seen many American movies at all, really, but she had seen and liked Titanic. So after she saw Star Wars, I was able to explain that Cameron and Lucas are friends, and that I personally saw them together, which I'm pretty sure made me look kinda cool for a moment. But it's not as if I gave her Star Wars as a pretext for a date... that was simply charity. :D

I don't think I have any strange rejections; probably means I haven't asked enough gals out. A somewhat older woman did once tell me she was eager to have children, and that I was too young to be in the running - which is not strange in of itself; it was her exact words that "I have screaming ovaries, and you can't help me with that for another five or ten years" that was distinctive! But I was super grateful to her for being so candid, and not pretending like we didn't have great chemistry despite the age, income gap, and soon-to-diverge life paths stuff. :p

I can't believe I'm replying to this thread but this comment below really just rubs me the wrong way.

I think it's pretty classless to refer to non-genre friendly people as "mundanes," no matter how silly the term is.

Why should someone who doesn't like Star Wars or whatever suddenly be deemed unworthy of attention or pursuit? Don't you think it's entirely limiting and narrow-minded to relegate an entire portion (if not the majority) of women as "out of bounds" simply because they don't share one interest with you?

I don't mean to jump down on you RJ. I like you. But I also know we disagree on a couple things and I think it's really lame that you are perpetuating such a closed-minded perspective on this. If I limited myself to dating only women who were genre-friendly, I'd have a list three people long. Two of whom turned out to be really terrible people, rife with mental disorders and one in particular in dire need of psychiatric help.

And while I realize that this does not constitute an accurate assessment of the entirety of genre-friendly women, I also know that the best relationships I've been in have been with well-rounded, cultured, and rational people who appreciated that I had this particular interest and while they may not have shared my gusto or passion for it, at least understood why it was important to me.

If you're pursuing someone who can't even muster the time or effort to do that, I'd respectfully submit that "not liking genre entertainment" is the least of the problems to worry about.

The point I'm trying to make though is that it is foolish to dismiss such a large body of people who might otherwise be creative, imaginitive, resourceful, hard-working, lovely, warm, caring, smart, intelligent, sexy, witty, loyal, funny, beautiful possible companions just because they don't like TOS or think nuBattlestar actually had some value as legitimate entertainment.

I dispute your thesis here because it is entirely faulty. I've known a LOT of women in my 34 years, all across the spectrum of behavior, creed, race, interests, physicality and demeanor and they have, each of them, been wonderful in their own way.

Oh, and here's your twist ending, M. Night Shyamalan:

The majority of these fine ladies were NOT genre-friendly, yet each were educated. Each had vibrant imaginations of their own and were creative - sometimes even more than I believe I am. They are wondrous, beautiful creatures full of wit and opinions nad desires and were worth every minute I spent pursuing and being with them.
