Goodbye Dr. Odo.....

I don't think the Doctor "should" be any particular age...age-looking rather. I like him younger or older! I don't think it's his appearance that matters really. He's the doctor no matter what he looks like and he's awesome no matter what!

However, that said, if David Tennant wanted to take the role back, I would be more than happy to stare and drool while watching...wishing he was my doctor... :D Matt Smith was cute, but David Tennant is gorgeous in my opinion. Just saying...not that it matters... :)

I am thankful that I don't have a boxed-in, limited conception of what (and who) Doctor Who can be. I enjoyed Matt Smith and I will miss his portrayal of the Doctor and the energy that he brought to the role. Peter Capaldi - for me- is an unknown (other than my understanding that he is quite a well-known and appreciated actor in the UK), but I am looking forward to seeing his interpretation of the Doctor.

I still long for a day when we get a woman or black doctor. Until then, I liked Smith (Not as good as Tennant or Eccleston) and I'm looking forward to Capaldi. It will be interesting to see what he brings to the character, and if him being older will bring a darker around the edges thing to the Doctor.

The most enjoyable moment of Matt Smith's tenure for me was when Tom Baker appeared. Civilian job or not, he's still my Doctor. Matt Smith was and always will be a goofy wannabe.

I'm with the OP on this one. Glad to have someone out-of-diapers back in the role.

Wait, wait, wait, if the Doctor was going to regenerate into Rene Auberjonois before becoming Peter Capaldi in the Christmas Special, couldn't you have at least put SPOILER tags on this thread? Someone of us haven't seen it yet!

Most Doctors were younger fellows. Tom Baker was also quite young when he took over. So was Peter Davison. Colin Baker wasn't old, either.

There's a difference between "young" and "manic college freshman." Guess which one Matt Smith was.

Matt Smith's Doctor was cast young, yet acted older. The Doctor is The Doctor, and we shouldn't judge him based on age, appearance or anything so shallow. He should be judged on what he does, and how he goes about doing it.

I will miss Smith a lot, but I look forward to seeing what Capaldi will bring to the role.

Between Eccleston, Tennant, Smith, and now Capaldi, I want a short Doctor again. Sure, the War Doctor isn't really short, but Tennant and Smith towered over him. And besides, he was four Doctors ago!

I miss the Troughtons and the McCoys. Even your midsized McGanns and Hurts.

When are we getting a blonde doctor!?!? It was great when we had Davison and C Baker back to back, but since then it's been nothing but brown, black and shades of gray!

Matt Smith never really motivated me to watch (I kinda checked out after the first season with Tennant), but from what I've seen he sold it fairly well. Seemed a little over-pretty compared even to Eccleston, but the Doctor has been young and pretty before. Only thing that annoys me about Smith -- and it's something I really noticed when he was sharing screen time with Tom Baker in his encounter with "the Curator" -- is that he spends a lot of time winking at the camera. Like, at the camera.

I might well start watching again for Capaldi, though.
