Like the Doctor told Clara, if he left, the Daleks would raze the planet killing all of the people he vowed to protect.

Although, they never showed what happened to all the people after his own blast!

Clara had gotten all the folks into the bell tower. They were coming out behind her after the blast.

I'm fairly sure that reusing old musical themes was intentional this time around, since the Time Lords and the Time War itself had their own themes during the RTD era. Murray Gold is, at the very least, consistent. And after rewatching Asylum of the Daleks, I was pleasantly surprised to find Clara's Theme making its debut in a story featuring the Ponds.

I noticed this during the 50th as well. The UNIT theme, the Time War theme (from Journey's End), etc. all made a return.

Why would the Time Lords listen to Clara?

Maybe it was a shard of Clara on the other side?

Not a big Whovian, but my gf is so I catch a lot of it.

Liked it, but very flawed. Like my gf said, is this had been Star Trek, it would have been a three-parter by now. It felt that rushed. To much storyline for a 60 minute special. Throwing together basicly all the Doctor's enemies at him at once, and all you really see is a few Daleks shooting, a few Cybermen shooting, some explosions... If you want to do something like that in a story, either go ALL OUT, or come up with something else.
As for linking a lot of older plots back to this (the destruction of the TARDIS, River Song), again, if you want to do that, do it proper with more story to it, instead of a throw away line here and there.

As for Tasha Lem.... New character and all, but are there really no female characters from ALL those years of Doctor Who that could have served a similair purpose? That's an honoust question really, because we are supposed to really think of her as a big thing since she's known the Doctor for years and a previous regeneration. But how are we supposed to care if she's really just a new entitiy?

Having said all that, I did enjoy myself with the good humor and entertainment valua of it all. But as for grading...all I know is that I enjoyed the Day Of The Doctor a lot more then I did this special.

Wouldn't Clara having saved the Doctor throughout time and space be known to the Time Lords since, arguably, they'd had to have been times when she'd saved his timeline from the Great Intelligence during events that took place on Gallifrey?

They don't know anything that happens after the timewar.

And since they are/were time locked, they don't know about any changes to the past from inside the Time War, or out side of the universe.

Besides, what Clara did was a million deeply personal and tiny acts across time and space in relative to complete disguise and obscurity.

    Worst. Regeneration. Ever.

Convoluted story, weak characterisation and wasted opportunities.

    Merry Christmas!

I was not very thrilled with it but I hope Moffat feels he has wrapped up all of his arc related shit with this one and we no longer have to return to any of this crap. Seemed more interested in tying up loose ends than anything worthwhile. Has to be the silliest Angel usage yet.

Then maybe the Time Lords are aware of her through her future acts with the new Doctor; we have no idea how the flow of time is being affected where Gallifrey is currently.

Oh, don't worry, Moffat's sticking to his usual arcs -- Twelve still has to find Gallifrey, after all. And we're already two episodes into that arc!

And she was with the Doctor and the Moment when the Doctor pulled Gallifrey out of the line of fire. Besides, it doesn't really need an explanation why the Time Lords were moved to save the Doctor beyond what we saw.

I'll need to watch it again but my first impressions are good. I agree with several others that it seemed a bit rushed but overall I enjoyed it. Smith was as brilliant and engaging as ever - I'm going to miss his Doctor a great deal - and the Gillan cameo was just perfect.

Agreed. Of course, I loathe Tennant's (excuse for a) Doctor beyond any and every attempt at description so I'm hardly unbiased, but this was so much better than the pathetic whinging.
Not me. I lost it.

I've watched it 2.5 times now (Watched it once, then the last half again, then the whole thing again). It gets better with repeated viewings. Once you understand how this regeneration worked, it makes much more sense.

I think the spookiest thing of all, is when Matt says "He's coming", and Clara says "Who?" and he says "The Doctor".

    I'm scared.

Why didn't he just bring the Time Lords back?

If the daleks left were enough to mount a challenge to them, why (with the absence of the time lords) haven't they taken over the Galaxy?

I watched it again and I lost it when Clara says "No! Please don't change!" and reaches for his hand right when it starts.... :(

I wish we could've gotten a little more time with Capaldi. As it is with the music playing so loud you could hardly hear him. I think he had three lines? The kidney one, we're crashing, and how do you fly this thing. I have a feeling he'll be an oddball.

    (1) To serve the plot and (2) because the Daleks have nothing else better to do than irrationally obsess over destroying the Doctor (and never do it). They could've destroyed that bell tower in the middle of his regeneration and killed him dead, but they didn't. Because if they did we wouldn't have a show and also because as people have noted time and again, they're a paper tiger villain. It's one of the reasons I'm tired of them. I know they're a classic villain and all, but I think they need to go away for awhile. Bring them back with teeth. Make them dangerous again.
