"Nothing is finalized yet, but we are in serious discussions and we should have news for you pretty quick. It'll be north of $30 [million], but we're working on it," Mato said. "We're still dotting the i's and crossing the t's. We're just not there yet."

Hopefully this means the Yanks still have time to counter offer.

The Yankees offered 3 / 24 for Infante, which is already stretching it, to say nothing of a fourth year -- Omar Infante in his age 36 season seems like a rough proposition. And since the Yankees are all-in on Project 189, I don't think they'll counter.

4/30M being reported. What's the Yankees' backup to the backup plan? I used to play 2B back in little league. Only 32, though, so gonna hold out for a 4 year deal at least.

Seriously, though, what's left at 2B?

Has Ty Wigginton retired yet? He probably play 2nd base. Trade Brett Gardner to the Mets for Daniel Murphy. Include Soriano and a bucket of balls and passes to Old Timers day and we'll make the deal right now.

Ten Hall of Fame ballots have been publicly released. Glavine and Maddux are on all ten ... with Jack Morris on eight. :barf: Other top vote-getters: Biggio at eight, Frank Thomas and Mike Piazza at seven, and Mussina, Schilling and Bagwell tied at 5.

Ser Barrold of House Bounds has four total votes currently. :(

Most amusing is Juan Vene's ballot, which comprises Maddux, Smoltz, Morris and ... Lee Smith.

I'd sooner suggest that the Yanks trade for Justin Turner than whoever the hell this 'Kelly Johnson' is.

Feel better, the Yankees are reportedly close with Brian Roberts as well. Yep, that one from the O's, that hasn't played a full season since 2009...

Apparently the Yankees think they've discovered a time portal to 2005.

Finished it up, 1 year, 2M plus incentives.

In 2005, this would have been a dream team. Unfortunately, it's 9 years later, and PEDs are mostly out of the picture, so being 48 years old no longer equates to hitting .340 and 93 HRs...

That's how the Mariners used to do things. They'd sign someone to be their big splash and then talk about his stats from 5 years ago.

If the Mariners sign Choo, I seriously might consider following them instead of the Rockies. I like some of the moves they've made this off season, especially compared to the Rockies' lackluster attempts to improve.

Youlkilis and Scott both heading overseas to play. The Yankees couldn't use a old DH?

I imagine they'll be platooning Soriano and the corpse of Ichiro / Wells (whichever one they can't dump for a box of baseballs), along with using it to spell Beltran when he needs a day off to rest his knees.
