Odo and Quark, I can see that, but I don't get into them as a couple.
Paris and Kim I also can see. I half heartedly try to ship them because I want to ship Paris with somebody, but Kim's a little too bland for me to get excited about them together. I've seen where people write Paris/Chakotay too.
Reed/Trip works. I vaguely ship Reed/Trip/Archer in any variation.
Riker/Picard, I can see why people want to ship them, but that's not my thing either.
I'd love to have a good slash pairing for Data. The most logical choice is LaForge, but he is like Kim, a little too bland. My tastes can be more eccentric, I imagine there could be some really good Lore/Data slash out there somewhere. I guess I do offically slash Data/Lore. Hey, they're not really brothers, right?

    Riker/Picard

now, I don't really ship slash but has anyone mentioned Spock/McCoy (tos ones)? I think "spones" is pretty popular in tos
all the hate-love relationship and let's not forget that Spock gave his katra to him which is pretty intimate for a vulcan .. it surely showed a lot of trust

as for het, aside from tos Spock/Uhura and Kirk/Uhura there is Sulu/Uhura (mirror mirror, 'I'll protect you fair maiden' her 'sorry, neither' will never stop being WIN) Chekov/Uhura who spent shore-leave together going shopping. Sulu/Chekov also have a fanbase
George Takei read one of the fanfictions http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=bMgC3OyBozE

I don't think for one second that it was intentionally pictured that way in TOS or that that it was queer baiting in any way in TOS. That is what people read into it for fun and pleasure, the same way people read retrospectively into the Spock and Uhura singing scene in TOS that there was romantic subtext.

I do think that it was intentionally pictured that way and played up in NuTrek, that this was on offer should you choose to look at the friendship that way. A whole 'nother era :)

Absolutely true! We can make a loaf out of a crumb :)

Oh and as to other characters.. yes The Chute was super slashy, I remember seeing it the first time and thinking this was going to be a big slash relationship but that was kind of the high point. I'm committed to J/7 :D

Reed/Hayes is my favorite from ENT.

As for Janeway and Seven didn't they pretty much spell it out that they were lovers when they were living out different lives in the holodeck with fake memories? That's the way I remember it anyways :)

The Official KingDaniel rundown of the top Trek couples!

Riker and Troi: Married out of fear of dying alone. If they were truly meant to be, they'd have been together in TNG and not exploring other options. And they know it.

Picard and Beverlump: Twenty years later and I'm not even sure if they were supposed to be an item post-"Attached"

Tom and B'Elanna: He often treated her like shit and she just took it. And he was completely oblivious to her suicidal depression. Not cool.

Odo and Kira: Dull meets dull. I guess that's a fit.

O'Brien and Keiko: She wasn't happy on DS9. He didn't give a fuck and stayed, creating the odd trite little diversion for her. Often painful to watch.

Worf and Dax: Mostly inoffensive except for when Worf said or did anything.

    Leeta and Rom: Sometimes sweet.

Moogie and Zek: Awww. Also ewww. But mostly awww.

Trip and T'Pol: Often ridiculous, with a deeply contrived set up (Doctor Phlox orders erotic massage?) and dragged on a bit, but not all bad, then swept under the rug in that hideous finale.

Spock and Uhura: Inoffensive and sometimes amusing ("Wait, you guys are fighting? OMG what is that even like??")

    Kirk/Spock: Just/Kidding.

You didn't think they were lovers when the whole crew were living different lives in the holodeck?

I never got round to watching the later seasons of ENT (save for TATV which....yeah) so I missed out on this pairing. I thought Trip and Reed were going to have a really slashy time in the episode where they're trapped in a shuttle and think everyone on the Entertprise is dead (it's a classic slash situation!) but then Reed starting going on about T'Pol's 'bum' and they ruined it :(

Is that the one where Janeway is in a white suit? That's the one episode of Voyager (two really) that I've missed, so I've only seen clips in fanvids, but even so...I get a feeling about Janeway & 7 there :D

Yes, I think that's right. Janeway was magnificently butch in that suit, and Seven was very old school femme fatale. It's a great two parter, you should totally watch it.

I agree that they didn't put in slash deliberately (mostly) but we're dealing with the 60s here - where they had different standards for personal space, interaction between the sexes and masculinity.
But I read somewhere that Theodore Sturgeon who wrote Amok Time was known for some 'controversial' (for it time) gay themes in his other works. I'm not even thinking I see KS in Amok Time though if it were anywhere it would be in this episode.

Me me I see the slashiness (sort of) in Turnabout Intruder. When I first saw the episode with my 11 year old eyes I thought Spock and Kirk/Lester were going to kiss. Yuk!
I thought this was rather 'dubious' back in the day decades before I knew slash existed. Still is it slash? I mean Kirk's a girl here.

I think it's still slashy, certainly of gay/slash interest that Spock and Kirk are acting like that, even if Kirk is temporarily in a female body. I'm looking forward to that one when I get to it in my rewatch marathon of TOS.
That's really interesting about Sturgeon, I'd never heard that, about his doing gay themes in his other work. I was suggesting that was possible earlier though, that some of the writers or directors were working in subtext.

There is that one scene where Spock and Kirk (inside Lester) walk out into a corridor, and they are holding hands. There are Human societies where men walk hold hands simply as friendship, but mainstream male society in the 1960's wasn't one of them.

So why are they holding hands?

    :)

That is one of those things where I wonder what they were thinking? It's hard to believe no one considered the implication of Kirk, even in a female body, holding hands with Spock. I mean, they are still the same people, and Vulcans aren't really known for being physically demonstrative.
It is true that simple things like even two men holding hands is shocking and taboo in our culture even now. It's nice to think that it won't be the case in the future. With homophobia wiped out in the 23rd century it hopefully wouldn't matter to anyone if they did hold hands. It's not something we see thru any of the franchise that I remember though, casual male intimacy. For that matter, it's not like Spock went around holding Uhura's hand either. That kind of close physical contact isn't something you get with Spock.

I have a hard time picturing that happening in TOS, but I wouldn't have hated it.

    holding both his hands
Personally, I hate this fanon thing that just because the vulcans are touch telepaths then they can't touch people without it having some second meaning.
If that was true, then you'd see them wearing gloves all the time...
I mean you understand why they might not like physical touch especially with strangers but he does touch people.
You do also have a scene where him and Kirk hold hands (a pretty iconic one too)
there are also some gestures that in 'the vulcan code' might have a cultural meaning, example the brothers hand gesture:

Of course, like in the example with femaleKirk, it's never random.
In that case I see him instinctively reaching for the girl in a male-protectiveness stereotype manner ("women needs to be protected by men"). You also see it in the way he reaches for Uhura or grabs her when he wants to help her. You don't see him doing that with his male friends. It's interesting to think that he perceives Kirk with that stereotype about women, so to speak, only because he has the body of a woman (and so he's being chivalrous)

Yeah, it's an interesting idea, but I don't know if I buy that Spock would really treat Kirk differently just because of his body. It does make him seem very old fashioned and chivalrous. Maybe Spock is more of those things that I normally would think of. I do see what you mean about Spock showing protectiveness towards Uhura and other women at times.

I thought Geordi and Data were an adorable couple. I never understood why they didn't hook up with each other, especially given Geordi's atrocious track record with women.
