Small things you'd've liked to've happened in TNG

I'd have liked someone to bring up the issue of Troi and her "uniform" a lot earlier than Jellico did, and I'd have liked someone to ask why she was on the bridge.
Preferably before they shot the pilot.... :p

I never understood Troi and her leotards anyway.

The leotards would maybe make sense if she had been written as being a civilian counsellor on board the ship or something. Was this idea ever considered?

But no, right there in the "Farpoint" pilot, they made the mistake of putting her in Starfleet uniform and assigning her the rank of Lieutenant Commander (IIRC). Incontroverable.

Admittedly most of the plots she was involved in over the years probably wouldn't have changed much if she had been a civilian character rather than someone within the chain of command, but still... :p

Let them walk past the cetacean department while they deliver some boring expositionary dialogue.

Have a look at the main shuttle bay.

Stuff like that would have been nice and possible in a film like Generations.

That at some point, any point, Data gets promoted to full commander. WTF sense did it make to have Troi pass him, when all she did was qualify for bridge command duty? Data is the 3rd in command, from day one!

I'm guessing Data was held back due to a lingering prejudice against him as an artificial life form.

Yeah, and maybe then Crusher could've pushed Data in the water and Geordi could've bitten her head off about how that's "not funny!"!

An advantage of having more aliens in the background (but not the foreground) is that their makeup wouldn't have to withstand the scrutiny of a close up, like during a face to face with a lead character.

:)
Exactly. DS9 did it with all the aliens on the Promenade, so it was do-able on a TV budget at the time.

^According to Data, synthehol's "intoxicating effects can be easily dismissed". (TNG: "Relics") (http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Synthehol)

It sounds more like you don't get drunk.

Well then it would be all about the specific taste, and burning, and stuff of alcohol. And that doesn't make too much sense.

Or by "easily dismissed" he means "no hangover".

It could be closer than we think.

I find it curious how they want people to be drunk, but not agressive. Isn't that depending on the type of person? Some get agressive, some get all depressed, some get all sociable, etc...

Just a small thing?

Make Pulaski permanent. I never have liked Dr. Crusher. She's almost worse than Wesley.

This is why I'd make a terrible writer. Or lawyer. A seemingly simple, direct phrase actually has implied meaning above and beyond what it initially seems to. :wtf:
