Can anyone tell me exactly what it was about The Source that was so awful?

^ I haven't seen it, but from what I gather exactly everything was wrong with it.

Poorly shot, poorly written, poorly acted, poorly conceived.

They take the entire Highlander TV franchise, take the worst bowel movement you can imagine all over it, then serve it to you with a glass of expired milk, knowing you're lactose intolerant. I can't imagine any of the actors, even Adrian Paul, liking what the movie did to their characters, nor anyone who ever wrote for the TV show liking what the hell happened to the Highlander world they wrote for six or so seasons.

    Ah, here we go:

And so boring they give a recap of the film if you fell asleep watching it.

Specifically for me, regarding The Source,it's doing "the future" for no real reason, it seems as cheap as it probably was. It also didn't really end with the Gathering...just open-ended, and hokey (with the baby being conceived).

I thought Endgame was much better in giving Connor an end to his era (as Lambert was clearly aging at that point), and gave a good contrast to Duncan & COnnor. The whole # of immortals being killed was dumb, especially that Kell's just happened to total 666. (which i think was faked; Kell got a hold of some watchers & beefed up his score; also wondering if that total was based on cumulative kills from others in that chain of events).

I also think it would have been cooler if that fight between Conoor & Duncan turns out to be staged by COnnor. NOT for the purpose of defeating Kell, but of ending Connor's life. The quickening would have a flashback that shows Connor killing Kell, but then suffering mentally/emotionally despite the win.

What would be interesting is that in today's era, it'd be nearly impossible to get away with the Identity theft that was done in the past, so that it FORCES a Gathering.

As for continuing things...I like to think of the Game as being done again & again in parallel universes, with previous winners being added to the mix in each new game. Connor was the winner in one, but now is in a universe where Duncan could win. (And you could explain Ramirez in Highlander 2 that way).

So, The Source basically rips off Star Wars, with all that being pure and merciful stuff at the end.

I've got a dumb question. Why is the "Gathering" any different whatsoever from life as usual among immortals? As if they hadn't tried to kill each other up until modern times?

I found that story element to be unnecessary. For that matter, the "there can be only one" premise kind of tied their own hands with regards to sequels. Best to have avoided it entirely as a plot point and left the door open for sequels or not. Or if you have the final showdown for the One, stop making films after that. Don't start adding new sequel twists that undermine the whole premise and make you distrust every "Final Showdown" after that. Geez, keep the warriors coming, fans are fine with that.

^You do realize the original movie was not made with the intention of having sequels?

Obviously. I still don't understand why life as an Immortal would be any different today than in history. If they are "gathering" - then where, exactly? If there can be only one - how many features/episodes need this plot?

Leave it open, all I'm saying. You can have the same stories but without shutting the door on sequels. Then again, this franchise has only hurt itself with sequels.

I'm just saying - if they made 10 more movies, can they not be about the final showdown please.

"HIGHLANDER XII: THE REAL FINAL SHOWDOWN WE MEAN IT THIS TIME"

    Just stop.

I love this franchise and would like to see it continue forever. Kill the "final showdown" idea. Be more like the TV series, less like Tim Burton's Batman.

There were no Highlander sequels. I also deny the existence of Terminator sequels.

    Agreed about Highlander sequels.

However, as far as Terminator is concerned, I acknowledge the existence of T2 and The Sarah Conner Chronicles.

While I actually saw T2, I still deny it's existence.

Not every Immortal wanted to play the Game. While there were those like the Kurgan who were obsessed with winning the Prize and actively hunted other Immortals, there were others who preferred to just keep their heads down and live their lives. There were even a few who abandoned the Game entirely and lived on holy ground.

The Gathering is basically meant to ensure that the Game does end eventually. Every Immortal, no matter who they are or where they are, feel an irresistible compulsion to go to wherever the Gathering will occur. They can't ignore it even if they wanted to.

What's wrong with some mystical mumbo jumbo in a story about people who don't age or die and pass on their life force to whoever cuts off their head?

If someone were to reboot the franchise with the purpose of making it a going concern then I think it'd be best to keep the Game. Just make it something ongoing and the gathering is something prophesied to take place in the distant future. Indeed the mythos needs some kind of structure otherwise it's just a bunch of immortals aimlessly stumbling though history.

Or you could make it cyclical. Like after a certain point immortals cease to be born, then a gathering happens and it all starts over again.
