Which non-trek authors would you like to write a trek novel?

Are there any authors who haven´t written any Star Trek novels so far you would like to do so?

For example, I would be very interested in Rick Riordan having a go.

Anyway, not 100% what you asked for, but I would like to see a solo-novel written by Kevin Dilmore, about the FNS or something like that.

 

Unfortunately they've passed away now, but I've wondered how Leslie McFarlane, Howard R. Garis and James Lawrence would've, each, written a Trek novel.

I would be intersted in seeing what James Rollins, the author of the Sigma Force series, could do with Trek. The SF series has a great cast of characters, and deals a lot with real scientific theories. I could see that translating to a Trek setting pretty well.

 

Rob ended up writing Starplex instead.

But we'll see what happens over the next couple of decades, I suppose.

Grant Morrison would write the trippiest Trek novel ever.

 

Wow, totally disagree with that one. Personally, I don't think his style would suit Trek at all.

Alan Dean Foster. I know he's done a lot of tie-ins (the TAS episodes and I believe he did the novelization of the 2009 movie). He has a wonderful take on the characters, so I would love to see him tackle an original Trek novel that's not based on an already-aired episode or movie.

I'm also curious as to what kind of Trek novel Ben Bova could write. It would likely be more scientifically plausible, with less technobabble. There's no question he knows how to write SF adventure stories, as witness his Asteroid Wars arc of his overall Grand Tour series.

 

Yes. His worked is peppered with Trek references.

 

I thought the same about J.G. Ballard.

 

He actually did write one of the unpublished Abramverse novels that were supposed to come out in 2010. So we did get very close to getting a non-novelization from ADF.

 

^Well, all of the last four Star Trek Log volumes (7-10) did contain original stories by Foster. They were sequels to the episodes (and in the case of Log Ten, a prequel and a parallel story as well), but they were definitely original Star Trek fiction by Foster.

 

^ Especially all of that filler material involving the Klingons, that was kind of a giveaway.
