This time the hellicarrier really does go down. I wonder if that will be a joke in "Avengers 2"

Cap- (New Hellicarrier)These things never really stay up that long

Stark- Understandable. You've been in the ice for more than 50 years...

    Cap- What?

    Stark- Nothing.

Or Stark modifies one for Avengers 2.

Not a spoiler but a guess - I suspect that it will be revealed that SHIELD was inspired by Captain America and part of the conflict will be that he feels responsible for what the (rogue?) part of the organisation does - and what it has turned Bucky into (unlikely to have russian origin).

Looks like they're going for a post-9/11 angle, which is the perfect place to take a Captain America who woke up in that era.

Ouch! Forgotten already? You were just down ther
Remember a while back when there was all that hubub about the director saying that this would be "the greatest" Marvel movie of them all, then he backpedaled and said he meant "the gritiest"?

I'm starting to think it'll be both!;)

Granted, there's a lot more to making a kickass movie than just putting together a great trailer. Sometimes, it's the little things in the editing that make a big difference. IMO, there were many moments in Captain America: The First Avenger that were ruined by an awkward beat in the editing. And as Iron Man 3 has demonstrated, trailers can be very deceptive at times.

But I'm a lot more excited about Captain America: The Winter Soldier after the trailer than I was before the trailer.

And between this & what we've seen so far in the ads for Thor: The Dark World, I'm absolutely gobsmacked by the sheer scale of these things. It's getting to the point where even something as expansive as The Avengers is going to start looking downright pastoral by comparison.

America, fuck yeah! Obviously there's a ton of f words in this if anyone is sensitive to that, or somewhere where they need to be careful.

My guess is that he's Admiral Marcus. Not entirely the bad guy, but certainly part of the problem.

Who is he carrying in his arms at about 1:39? Is that Black Widow?

What struck me most about the trailer (apart from the most awesome Winter Soldier and him going hand to hand against Cap) is the morality displayed in the trailer (and hopefully in the movie).

I'm not a big Cap fan way back when i read comics on a regular basis but he always embodied a simple, uncompromising black and white view of the world. He knew what's wrong and he didn't make concessions or soften it up around the edges if "times demanded different actions".

He just was this fixed point where you could measure yourself against to see how far you have strayed. Some may call that simplistic but it's also the greatness of the character who won't budge under any circumstances and who will face every consequence but he will remain true to himself.

I guess if he were real and live in the post 9/11 world he would have some choice words on Guantanamo, Abu Ghraib, the "Patriot Act", wiretapping etc (heck.. he even quit the job at one point in the comics out of protest because he couldn't support the government's actions).

If that translates well into the movie i'll be one really satisfied customer, if not at least i'll get some cool scenes and 'splosions for two hours.

I definitely agree with you and I do believe that this is exactly what is playing out. Based on what we have seen in the trailer, I think we can gleam some of that.

It looks like he starts out in the SHIELD "patriot" uniform. After the Winter Soldier attack and Nick Fury being hurt, he discovers something about SHIELD to cause him to abandoned that SHIELD "patriot" uniform and break into the Captain America museum and retrieve his old Captain America uniform at the end. I think Captain America will break his ties to SHIELD in this movie and put SHIELD into disarray.

I've just thought - when the Redford characters says ""Your work has been a gift to mankind. You shaped the century. And I need you to do it one more time." is that actually a statement he's making to the Winter Soldier not Cap?

    Interesting theory.

Might make for an even more entertaining movie...

I'm not familiar with the Winter Soldier storyline, other than knowing who he is. He comes off a bit too emo-looking for my tastes, but I'll see how he fares in the film.

Something I'm getting from the trailer that I like is the vibe that Evans's Cap is stepping up into his role as the patriarch superhero of the MCU. He was written into that role in The Avengers, but it seemed like he hadn't really earned it onscreen yet. I'm feeling more gravitas here in his follow-up solo outing.

I doubt it. Not because I don't think he's the type of character that would say something like that to the Winter Soldier, but because I suspect any connection he would have with him would have to be secret (so there wouldn't be any opportunity to show a quote like that in the movie if made to the Winter Soldier).

I'm not sure what you mean here. It's not obvious from the trailer who he's saying it to (indeed, one would infer it's the Captain), so if he's saying it to the Winter Soldier in the movie there'd be no way of knowing until it happens.

My point is that an involvement he has with the Winter Soldier would likely be a plot twist. Unless the quote is from the very end of the movie (which isn't likely since it would be odd to say something like that at the end of the movie when the focus is more on action than building the plot), it would give away the twist to have him say it on camera to the Winter Soldier.

flashback and it looks like "evil shield" gets set-up quite early to give Steve time to go on the run and also take Fury out.

Sure, I just think that's the less probably explanation. Particularly because I expect the story to be from Steve Rogers's point of view and isn't going to flip to another PoV. I could be wrong, I was just giving my opinion in answer to the question.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of a single marvel universe movie that doesn't flip to another POV at some point in the film?

Fair point, but I'd still argue that flashbacks are different when it comes to changing viewpoints. You're not just watching the action develop, you're inside the character's head.

I'd love them to make Civil War (only Avengers graphic novel I've read) down the line as a movie. Preferably with Downey, if he's still around.
