Captain America: The Winter Soldier pre-release thread

I was hoping for Falcon's outfit to look a bit sleeker but didn't get a great look at it. Overall the movie looks great!

 

I think it would probably be a little too obvious to make Redford the villain. I hope they don't go down that route, because people would be able to see it coming a mile away.

In any case, very cool trailer. And Cap's alternate suit is even growing on me too.

 

I actually like that the falcon's suit can look a little more 'realistic'.

 

Potentially looks to surpass it's predecessor! I'm on board with this one.

 

Great trailer, can't wait to see both the upcoming films.

Spoiler: Shield

Wasn't expecting such a focus on the SHIELD organisation, or them taking on a much more Section 31 esque MO.

But, 3 helicarriers at least? and enough to consider one of the disposable for the film? just how much funding could SHIELD possibly have to build a complex that big and 4 supercarriers with fusion powered, superconductor operated flight engines. One was alright when it was their base of operations, but these guys aren't the aliens and superheroes.

Either way, I like the thriller aspect they're going for, should be interesting to see how they work the Cap's older ideals against the modern terror themes.

 

SHIELD always has a fleet of those in the comics.

 

looks really good. i was hopeful they would play with the man out of time aspect and bring up the differences in ideology Cap would most likely have with SHIELD. or at least, the differences he would have not long after being woke up.

 

That looked like lot of fun. Nice to see Redford (who I think is underrated actor). And LOL'd at heli-carrier crashing into
water

 

As I said before, it's easy to imagine that if this film had been made 40 years ago (as a big budget epic, as oppose to the old cheapo ones), Redford may have been playing the lead role.

 

The fleet approach is something that's become the norm only in the last 15-20 years. Used to be that when a SHIELD Helicarrier showed up on the scene, it seemed as if we were editorially expected to believe that they only had one of those in service at any given time. Joe Casey and Jose Ladronn were responsible for breaking that illusion in their run on Cable.

 

^ The other Oscar is for directing, not acting. Most of his awards are as director or producer, not for acting. Redford is a screen legend but there are many who have dismissed him as a pretty boy. It's not entirely inaccurate to say that he's an under-rated actor.

 

Spoiler: Thor

I've heard the Thor post-credits scene will be a set up for "Guardians of the Galaxy" directed by James Gunn.

 

Great trailer. My only complaint is the lack of Emily VanCamp.

 

Hoping those boats get names along with their pennant numbers...

That's kinda what I was hinting at. Also heard people say find him a bit stiff or wooden.

 

I imagine that part of the reason for casting Redford, as well as the fact that he looks like an old Steve Rogers, is a nod to the likes of All the President's Men and 3 Days of the Condor, those seventies political thrillers that helped cement his stardom.

 

Depends if they had names in the comics.

 

Why would it depend on that? We've seen many times already that the movies don't just slavishly copy the comics but frequently create their own new interpretations, storylines, and characters. They draw on the comics' ideas, but they do not depend on them exclusively.

After all, the comics are read by thousands, while the movies are seen by millions. The bitter truth is that the comics are secondary here. They're a source of ideas, but it's the movies that drive things now.
