Love the setting of the film, too bad it's not coming out in December as it looks like it'll be a good winter film. It'll be interesting to see Wes do a period piece that's set in the 30's/40's. How surreal! I'll most likely see this, for the cast alone; I'm completely unfamiliar with Wes Anderson's work.

His films aren't for everyone, but I love them all. A very nice and refreshing change from the usual fare.
Wow that really has taken the Anderson touch to an oddly logical conclusion.. I expect there to be at least one penny farthing in this. Looking forward to it!
I think Wes may be losing himself in self-indulgence to his love of whimsical eccentricity but it's been a fun ride. My favorite was Life Aquatic but every film offers just a bevy of detail and little touches everywhere.
I have to say I'm surprised this is coming out so soon considering Wes Anderson usually takes a year or two longer to produce a film. Nonetheless, it looks great and I can't wait to see it, but then I'm a huge of fan of his and loved all of his films. I read A.V. Club's review of the book and it indeed looks very interesting, although I'm a bit hesitant to get it considering he's still producing films. I'm a completest and it'll drive me crazy as soon as it it's out of date. *shrug*
The sense of lost glory and the crew never having upgraded their tech from the 60's-70's always give me a slight Venture Brothers vibe. As for Wes and whimsical eccentricity.....love him or hate him, he makes the films he wants to make, in the way he loves to make them. Not many directors do that or get to do that. Sure, he's not as famous as he could be, but he's doing what he wants to even though it puts him in a niche market. I can respect that. Plus his films tend to be a refreshing break from the standard movie fare. I always look forward to a Wes Anderson film. I was a bit surprised that the book was released so close to the release of Wes' next film. Especially since I've heard GBH may come out in March. Why not delay the book a bit more to include it? As for the book being "out of date".....think of it as "Volume One". Ideally the book of this stature would include the next spate of films. It really is an awesome book though. Has a metric shit ton of great photos, production art, including stuff like the books from Royal Tenenbaums and Moonrise Kingdom, etc.

Other than Life Aquatic, I found the Wes Anderson Films I've watched (Which are Moonrise Kingdom and Fantastic Mr. Fox) to be really good. I'll check this one out. Moonrise Kingdom is probably my favorite of his and this one gives that MK vibe.
That is a good way of looking at it. I do love big tomes that have extensive looks at a director's films. One of my favorite non-fiction books is The Stanley Kubrick Archives which covers all of his works, including his early short films and documentaries as well as his failed projects. Maybe I'll check it out the next time I get bitten by the Wes Anderson bug, which will probably be around the time this comes out and I decide to rewatch Life Aquatic and Fantastic Mr. Fox and probably a couple of others yet again. Oh, and I take it doesn't have anything from Grand Budapest Hotel?
No....But each movie, from Bottle Rocket to Moonrise Kingdom has a good size chapter of it's own, with an interview with Wes about various facets of the film like inspiration for or elements of. A LOT of great photos, some really nice full page ones to boot, a ton of art and a cutaway or two from each film as well (like the Tenenbaum house and several of the Belafonte). Pretty much THE book to own for the Wes Anderson fan.
I have not seen Moonrise Kingdom! Bottle Rocket and Tennenbaums are my favorites with Tennebaums being in my top five films non-SW films (because they take up too much of the top 5.. so they can't be there..)
