I also reckon a Sulu-taking-command-of-an-Excelsior-type starship in the Abramsverse, would be pretty cool! :) Perhaps he could captain the three-nacelled, red-hulled Armstrong-Class starship, as seen at the Spacedock in STID (which is incidentally, the USS Excelsior NCC-1729) - and go in the opposite direction to which the USS Enterprise was going (as has been suggested by previous posters on other threads).

I'd be up for a series of that!

There is a little bit of a difference between trying to turn a reasonably successful film career into 'leverage' when negotiating over a part in a completely random show that doesn't actually need you and using your highly successful pre-existing role within a franchise as leverage when negotiating regarding a show that would, at the least, take some serious flack if it tried to recast your pre-existing part.

It wasn't even remotely dumb, in fact much of it was way above kids heads. At its lowest point it reached TPM levels of political tedium, at its highest it was visually fantastic with storylines full of charm and surprise. Very Star Wars.

I've heard repeatedly that The Clone Wars got very good. Unfortunately, I gave up on it halfway through the intro movie, which was even more unbearable than Attack of the Clones.

Starship Exeter or starship Farragut the Jjverse version
I would imagine any live action tv show would reuse current sets, cgi and costumes
We still haven't seen another Jjverse Connie, there should be twelve sister ships no?
Especially after so much of the fleet got wiped out over Vulcan and we know the older design Farragut ate it
Would certainly give those of us looking for some actual exploration some meat to chew on
    And
We already know in this universe some of the original encounters are met by other starships (space Seed)

The CGI files are all held by ILM; there's no guarantee another effects house could use the files (just like the First Contact files weren't very helpful when DS9's effects houses tried to use them). And the sets probably aren't around anymore; they were all rebuilt from scratch for Into Darkness, and I doubt Paramount saw a reason to change the "destroy them" policy.

(Which of course ignores the location shots, which probably can't be done on a TV budget. No more Engineering scenes!)

But if no one hires them, it's pointless what wages the command. The fact of the matter is they've starred in two "hit" movies, four year apart. Yet they aren't household Hollywood names. Being a star of Star Trek doesn't translate to a blank check. That's a bit of fan myopia.

As someone else pointed out, virtually all of them continue to get regular television work. And that's the bottom line of what actors want: regular work.

The movie was a bit of a mistake, it was a result of Lucas wanting them to string together their first three episodes into a theatrical release. Because of that the pace was all over the place, it had 3 climaxes that confused the viewers and the story had to be dragged out. And I'll be honest, while all the seasons were good, the first season (even with a few outstanding episodes) had to do a little bit of self-searching to find its direction. Once it did, it went full-throttle and by the last two seasons had exceeded many of the movies in terms of story and excitement.

In this respect it's quite similar to Star Trek series, that often start off a bit weak before really picking it up and pushing it through. (TNG, DS9)

as much as a new ship series set in the jjverse would rule i would love a section 31 series set obviously in the jjverse, something a bit darker, have new elements and still keep the classic, have ships yeah but stick it to earth.

Section 31 would be the cheapest why to do it. Might even have a broader appeal. The concern would be it being compared to Agent of Shield and/or trying to mimic AoS.

it maybe the cheapest but if done well it would be great, i would splurge on the budget and go all out, a section 31 base on another world maybe, obviously have the agency on earth but then branch it out to other planets, Qo'nos, cardassia and other worlds, really give it something good, will be a good proposal, show a new kind of trek.

The problem with doing a Section 31 series is that Section 31 is a criminal organization, and criminals don't make the best choice for heroes in a TV show.

Yeah, sure, you can make them noble criminals and explore the gray area of doing horrible things for the right reasons. But be honest, you're not going to find that level of complexity in Abrams Trek.

And before anyone suggest it, a series about Starfleet Intelligence would just be catering to a niche market. Hell, any Trek series is targeting a niche market, but Starfleet Intelligence is a niche within a niche. That's not very promising.

Gotta imagine this is years away if it ever happens.

Animated may be the way to go.

If not..captain sulu sounds good. Allows for the occassional guest star. Can even have takei guest as either father/uncle or as admiral nogura

    God no.

If they take that path they can count me out and likely many other viewers as well. I don't mind Trek being dark when a specific story calls for it, but to have it that way week after week, year after year? No thanks.

I'll find something else to do with my time and money.

so maybe dark and gritty works for 1 maybe 2 episodes tops as the story needs it, i would like a series other than section 31 maybe a series set on the front lines of some new expedition to a new part of the galaxy, some new creatures and a stonking good ship, a post dominion war series if set prime side, things will be a little dark from that

I got the impression from STID that in the JJ verse Section 31 was known, but black ops group within Starfleet. You could easily make it a spy series.

so yeah that's where i was trying to come from in my other post, from that Qo'nos and cardassia and maybe bajor can come into play in section 31, set it in the prime trek, after the dominion war and we have a story
