A friend of mine told me that he heard the reason they voted Candace out immediately is that she was a last minute replacement.

According to a post I made in the thread for last year's Survivor I was expecting to see Rob Cesternino and RC instead of Colton and Candice, so I believe that if Candice got in because RC dropped out at the last moment.

I've heard similar rumors. I also heard that RC came with her dad, and the reason they dropped out was because her dad was having medical issues related to high blood pressure on the day before filming started.

I also heard that Rob Cesternino was supposed to be there with his wife, but I believe they had to drop out because she got pregnant.

What a strange turn of events. It's like Colton played an entire game of Survivor in three days, and no one wanted to play with him.

The Brad guy in charge of the loved ones tribe is not doing well. I mean, he is and he isn't. He thinks he's got everything wrapped up nicely, but the fact that he was so willing to turn on John will not be a fact that escapes the rest of his tribe or the other tribe.

That whole Brad thing was just stupid. Gets rid of John because Candace might come back? Uhh bro did you not just notice that everyone else including yourself in your alliance also has a loved one they would happily get back together and plot with?

The daughters that got pwned by their mothers were just pathetic. WTF are you even doing out there Ciera? Complete dead weight, no chance to win. Just go home and help raise your little kids.

It's way too early to say the season is bad. I mean, the season's gimmicks are bad, yes. The only show-ruiner left pathetically though and IMO there's good enough people to make the second half of the game interesting.

When are the producers going to learn that EVERY time they do returning castmembers against new people the returning castmembers will dominate completely?

If it were up to me they'd either do all returning or none returning and nothing in between.

I think that while returnees should have been on the tribe opposite their own loved one, they could have at least had each tribe be half and half. Half returnees, half the other returnees loved ones. Oh well.

I think this will be an interesting season. Survivor is one of those shows that gets better as the season goes on, so you can't judge too harshly based on just a couple of episodes. Unlike Big Brother, which is good at the beginning, then great in the middle, then kind of boring at the end (except for this season, which sucked from beginning to end).

Depends on the season. Some seasons are obnoxiously boring after the merge because one tribe just knocks off the other one by one.

For Big Brother, I would alternately say, some seasons suck from beginning to end (2/3), and some are good from beginning to end (1/3). This season, as you said, was a suck season.

I agree it would have probably been better to do 5/5 returning/loved ones with all players opposite their loved one.

I have no time for quitters, especially those who have played the game and knows what it takes to survive (Colton, Sue Hawk, Jenna Morasca) I may take some heat for Jenna, but if you know Mom is that sick, why even agree to go? Sue had spent an entire season with a naked Hatch and now she has an issue? Colton has quit once, why go back for a second!

Richard rubbed himself against her and she's from a conservative culture. The fact that he's not sexually interested in her doesn't make it any less of a sexual assault, I can definitely understand that one.

The ones that bother me the most are the ones when people quit for no reason because they aren't having a good time, like Colton, Naonka, Purple Kelly, Osten, etc. Or even worse are like the Hantzes who, knowing they are going to get voted out, throw violent tantrums to get themselves booted from the show.

It was also kind of stupid when Johnny Fairplay got voted out and pretended he was walking away voluntarily. But at least he did it in a way that didn't hurt his tribe.

BTW, ever notice that even though like three times more people have played Survivor than Big Brother, Survivor has never had a rule violation expulsion and Big Brother has one every two or three years? How many has it been? Justin, Scott, Chima, Willie, are there any I'm missing? Survivor is so much better at casting than Big Brother.

In Jenna's defense, it's always hard to tell with aging and ailing relatives, who can be declining for years, and survive several crises, before taking a sudden turn for the worse. In the meantime, life goes on and you can't put your entire life on hold because a loved one is going to pass away at some unknown point in the future.

I know that I've personally rushed across country at least twice because an ailing relation appeared to be at death's door, only to have them rally and live for several more years--until the next crisis, or the next. And I used to work as an orderly at a nursing home and, trust me, sometimes the final descent can come on very quickly and without warning. A resident could seem fine in September and be gone by December . . .

It may well be that Jenna's mom's health appeared to be stabilized at the time she volunteered for the show, only to take a sudden turn for the worse at the wrong time.

Well, it also changes things that we can watch the BB cast all day long. Rule violations are much more difficult to hide. And, the seasons are three times as long. I think Survivor is definitely a more physical challenge, and Big Brother is more of a psychological challenge. I can easily see myself going crazy in that house!

But anyway, nobody likes a quitter. They are more hated by the fans than any villain on the show.

Haven't watched Big Brother since Season 1. That show is too low even for me

All I really remember is being really unimpressed by people that freaked out because they could only eat PB+J for a day or two.

From the random comments I hear occasionally it sounds like the show only devolved from there to where they just stuff a bunch of hot contestants together, and charge people money to watch them eventually screw.

To defend Big Brother, both it and Survivor devolved into picking the girl who looks best in the bikini or the guy whose steroid dosage will put into him into a rage at any moment.

Survivor may be better at finding that one underdog you can root for (eg. Yau-Man) but, as was said earlier, Survivor is physical, Big Brother is psychological, but it's the same show.

Survivor tends to have half of its cast over 40. It's got its share of eye candy, sure. But Big Brother has never had more than one person over 40 in the same season. Also Survivor just looks for assertive, interesting personalities. Big Brother specifically looks for spoiled rich entitled drama queens.

And also the editing. Take Hayden. On Survivor he seems like a perfectly normal, decent guy. On Big Brother he was like MICHELLE IS EVIL AND CAN DIE WE ARE THE BRIGADE EVERYBODY IS EVIL FOR NOT DOING WHAT I WANT THEM TO DO! I'm pretty sure they make them trash each other in the DR.

And yeah, they are fundamentally the same game. Vote people out one by one. Though the HoH dynamic is a big difference, it makes it harder to play a dominating game and easier to get through on a quiet social game. But in terms of casting and editing, Survivor wins by a mile. And Survivor doesn't do stupid crap like "The Ex Factor" as often. At least, not until this season. Survivor's 'twists' tend to be changes in gameplay mechanics like tribe swaps and hidden immunity idols, not stupid forced relationship twists. (Again, the current season is a bad example)

I suppose they did do that stupid 'Race' season.

I missed several seasons, due to not having a TV. I can't remember the last season they did with 100% new people.

The original plan was to have one tribe with married/engaged couples and one tribe with "related by blood" couples. This fell apart when one of the teams had to drop out for medical reasons and the alternate team upset the balance. The producers quickly changed it around so there would be a returning player tribe and a "loved one" tribe.

I think the last one with all new players was the first Colton season, which was Spring 2012.

Of course I remember Colton, and I forgot who won until I looked on Wikipedia, which unfortunately proves the producers' point.

If the producers knew he'd faked his appendicitis last time, why would they ever let him back? And to see him just quit again... it's a real slap in the face to all the other people who apply - sometimes for years - to get on the show.

Also, the one guy I hated the most his first appearance is the one guy who seems the most likable this time around (Tyson). Is that all editing, or is he really behaving differently? Maybe it's what he said about 'The game making people angry', maybe he's describing himself in his first season.

I wonder if I'd enjoy it if I went back and watched through some of the older seasons. Not that I have the time to do so, but I remember I did re-watch the first three Survivors once when I was in high school. There are a bunch of the seasons in the middle that I just don't remember that well except I remember enjoying them, like Aras' first season or the one with the Todd/Stephen final.
