Fortunately, we got a letter from my husband's employer that, yes, we're covered and the plan meets the standards. That's what happens when someone works for a large employer.

And millions being denied coverage isn't heading towards the worst possible future?

How about situations where health insurers retroactively cancel an insurance policy after the surgery has taken place leaving the patient out of pocket (As one poster on this board can attest).

Maybe you should do some reading before you post again becasue there are millions in Canada, the U.K, Australia, Scandinavia etc etc who have universal health coverage and guess what - we're not suffering for it and we have a lot better health than many many many Americans.

It is a stunning complication of evidence and it has been turned over to Congressman Steve Stockman and Ted Yoho who are working behind closed doors to get a investigative congressional committee together with subpoena powers. Their evidence now puts the official statements of the Hawaii Dept. of Health officials in question. So no, we can't at this time conclude that Hawaii was the true birthplace of Obama. Also a dual citizen can never be considered a natural born Citizen. The U.S. state department frowns upon dual citizenship.

The insurance carrier made it clear the increase was in order to be compliant with the new health care law.

And we all know that insurance people never lie.

Beside, as an Italian citizen, I get my healthcare from the our National Health Service. It's tax-funded and it's ranked as the second best in the world by the World Health Organization. So, yay for "socialism", I guess.

Same in Australia, where the levy is 1.5% of your gross income, adn who would miss that? That's only about $900 A YEAR so someone paying that a month is WTF territory for me. Why is it so hard for the US to do that? It simply escapes me.

Because not having health insurance, just like not having car insurance, drives up costs for everyone else. Hospitals can't turn you away just because you don't have health insurance, so they pass the costs on to those who do. Similarly, if you don't have car insurance and you crash into someone, they still have to pay for it - and they can't rely on your insurance to help cover it either. So their rates go up even more.

Ignoring all of the actual evidence that he was born in Hawaii, the idea that a couple in the early 60's who *had* been in Hawaii would hatch a plan to leave the country, name their biracial child Barack Hussein Obama, Jr, and then plot to get him illegally elected President by placing birth announcements in local Hawaiian papers, and then take him out of the country again for a few more years is just insane. And to what end? Don't tell them that - you'll ruin their preconceptions that we have unreasonable wait times and second-rate care, even though I got an immediate exam, including a CT scan, when I had a sudden-onset, blinding headache, and a full range of tests (including more CT scans as well as heart tests) within two or three weeks of having a series of fainting spells.
