The ComicsAlliance website has just posted an article covering the history of Trek comics:
http://comicsalliance.com/star-trek-comic-book-guide-dc-marvel-idw-john-byrne/
It's not particularly in-depth, and apparently it's focused specifically on TOS comics, since there's no mention of Malibu's DS9 run and Wildstorm gets short shrift. But it's interesting to see an analysis of Trek comics from more of a comics-fan perspective than the Trek-fan perspective I've seen in similar articles, talking about various writers and artists in the context of their larger bodies of work -- for instance, pointing out that DC TOS penciler Tom Sutton was known mainly for horror comics, or mentioning similarities in Peter David's work on the Trek comic to his later work on X-Factor.
