I've heard this a lot, but I'm afraid that if you talk to any physicist they can explain better than I that this is not what conservation of energy means. It is not about any kind of life force or the energy of thought patterns. In fact, the conservation of energy helps to disprove the claim that a spirit or soul leaves the body upon death as energy, because if it did, then it could be measured. As iguana said, this doesn't disprove life after death, it just can't be used as evidence for life after death.

What happens to the body after things die isn't what I'm getting at. It's the completed circuit of the energy produced by a body. I am Agnostic though. I believe that as much as I believe nothing happens, or if some guy in front of a pearly gate asks me to list my good deeds, or if I reincarnate into a moose equivalent of me.
Again, there is no unaccounted for energy at the point of death, this is something that is measurable. I don't know what you're talking about with the anti-time thing...
I'm just saying that the law of the conservation of energy doesn't do anything to prove any kind of afterlife, including reincarnation. Nor does it disprove them, it's just completely irrelevant.

Conservation of energy is pretty useless if you want immortality. If you burn a book, the total energy of the system is conserved, but the actual content of the book is lost.
What would be much more interesting would be if there is some kind of law of conservation of information beyond the simple conservation of energy. But as of now it's still an open problem, especially if you take into consideration the quirks of quantum mechanics.

I found this to be a really interesting article on the realities of death. It also discusses NDEs somewhat, but is mainly about a) dispelling the myth that "death" is a specific moment in time, and b) that what we think of as death is, in many cases, reversible, even with current (or soon-to-be-available) technology and techniques.
If a person creates a delicious sandwich, unaware that someone else created the same sandwich priorly, is it not still a delicious sandwich?
