That's a very good point. When you get a piece of information every week or month, 6 months or more before something, it often does seem to stretch out the waiting period. Much better, IMHO, to just forget about it, until a reasonable waiting period when the advertizing and Marketing push is not so far off from the air date.
Depends on your definition of fall. I know a lot of TV channels which are starting their fall schedules this week. Today in fact.
To remind people to schedule their day? Its not on TV now, so naturally, you want to entice them. But I understand a trailer would be too much. Personally I'd settle for two things: 1) The title, 2) A teaser. Just a small, one-minute teaser to entice viewer. Nothing extraordinary other than the scene from which the released image came from. And of course, the fucking title - this special has a name, surely?
Who would be scheduling their day, 3 months from now, around a TV show. I can't think of anyone, other than Internet posting fans, who already know the Anniversary is November 23, and don't need to be reminded. The thing about "building momentum" too early is, you just can't keep the momentum going for months on end. Start advertizing too early, and by the time the show finally does air, the general audience is goiing to think it's a rerun. There's been more than once, I've seen someone who saw a trailer 6 months in advance for something, and by the time it finally airs, their memory of seeing the trailer 6 months ago, makes them remember they already saw it 6 months ago.
They could at least put a teaser or SOMETHING on the website. Honestly, throw the fans a friggin bone already.
Perhaps but how many TV shows are on air and in production when they reach their 50th Anniversary? Of course the UK TV model is slightly different from the US TV model. And DW is a mainstream show in the UK maybe I would go so far as to say Iconic. New lead, sure we'll schedule a 30 minute programme. Let's do a Prom abut the music of the show. We'll do a behind the scens programme about the show (though that was cancelled). DW is cancelled on the front pages of papers, DW returns on the front pages of papers, New Doctor cast on the front pages of the papers (even the broadsheets).
Except there's been two. And we're within 3 months. I wouldn't be fussed if there wasn't one at all. Plenty of movies wait to within 2 months, sometimes a month and a half. But since there's been 2 trailers already that have been "exclusive" to a small group, yeah I'm a bit annoyed. Or as was said to me above, "entitled."
I'd hoped the same thing... Oh well, as someone said it's not like we're not all going to watch it anyway, and if it's a teaser trailer it might not tell us much anyway? The BBC have only just started releasing trailers for Atlantis and that's likely to air long before November
Meh. Just watch this one again. Still the best trailer from the entire series IMHO. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfEPQqHx40c
I agree that's as great trailer (despite the over-dramatic single-shots of companions current and past), although it helps a lot that it's one of my favorite seasons of the whole show and easily David Tennant's best.
