Miss Chicken (the cat) is ill again.

Miss Chicken

Little three legged cat with attitude
Admiral
Two years ago it was damage to her inner ear and a dislodged lens due to a fall. She recovered from that though she lost nearly all the sight in her eye.

This time her jaw is badly swollen. It is either an abscess due to an infected tooth or a tumor. The vet reckons it is a 50/50 chance either way. I am waiting for a phonecall with the results of her bloodwork to see if she is able to go under an anesthetic to determine what is wrong.

She is now 14 years 8 months and 15 days old.

She has lost a little weight. She now weighs 2.92 kilos whereas she weighed 3.2 kilos last time she went to the vet.

My two boy cats both weigh more than 6 kilos but Miss Chicken bosses them around.

Aw. I hope she gets better soon. Good luck, Miss Chicken (the both of you).

Its very bad news. It is cancer and it has eaten away quite a bit of her jaw. The vet says he has removed one infected tooth but doesn't think that there is much else he can do for her. He has suggested that we bring her home for a week or so with antibiotics and pain relief and see how she copes after is after that infection is cleared . He said that he believes she only has weeks rather than months to live but suggests that we don't make any decision to put her to sleep until the tooth infection is cleared.

Oh no! :(

She was born with a very small, deformed front leg (with no foot at all). It was shaped like a furry chicken's wing and that is why we named her Chicken.

I'm so sorry to hear about your cat. I actually feel like crying.

I currently have two myself and I know how dear they can be. Your heart must be breaking and you have my deepest sympathies.

We have four cats and two dogs. They're all rather young, so hopefully we won't have to deal with anything like this for many years to come.

Oh dear. My thoughts are with you, Miss Chicken. My pets are absolutely my family members, so losing one is always a traumatic experience.

Oh, man. :( I'm so sorry to hear this. I know only too well how terrible it is to lose a pet. I hope she can be made comfortable and happy. You have taken very good care of her and thanks to you she has had a long and happy life. That's the thing that you need to remember.

Sorry to hear the sad news. I guess I'll have to give Moochie and Perro an extra snuggle when I get home from work.

I am so sorry to hear this. I hope her infection clears quickly and you have a chance to spoil her rotten before you need to make that painful decision. Take care.

Miss Chicken has got her appetite back. She is only eating a little at a time but she is eating frequently.

She slept peacefully beside me last night with one of our other cats, keeping her company. She normally sleeps on my son's bed but the last few days she has wanted to be near me.

I am feeling a little guilty because I had a stronger reaction to being told Chicken cancer than when I learnt my mother had cancer.

There's no need to feel guilty. I know the feelings I have about my cats are more potent than those about my other family members.

Cats are like our infant children, except furrier and purrier.
