I saw that Scotty double in person at the Boston convention. He entered the costume contest and was the big winner. I've been to many cons and I've never heard applause like that at a costume contest before.
He was at STTE the day before they closed. I was able to have a good discussion with him and he told me a story that he attended a convention a few months after Doohan passed at which Chris Doohan was a guest and, from a distance, he totally freaked Chris out he was that convincing as passing as a Scotty/Doohan look alike. It probably didn't help any that IIRC Doohan was known to attend conventions in the same style costume.
The details aren't -quite- there, but dang if he couldn't have been his stunt double in the later movies. That's awesome. Heck, I'd have fun as all heck with that if I was that similar to a character. I'm sure it did freak Doohan's son out too, though he's probably used to the double takes if he does this regularly.
