Resurrecting Extinct Animals

"The Mammoth BBQ-Bacon Mammoth Burger, now at Burger King!"

It's very hard to get the big buns...

^^ :D

Trilobite?! I would love to see those as well but aren't they way too long dead (250 million years ago) to get a viable sample?
Wishful thinking. I love trilobites. We probably couldn't get a viable sample from any dinosaurs either.

The giant tortoise has been reintroduced to two of the offshore islands of Mauritius. Because the two species that were endemic to Mauritius are extinct scientists had to introduced a closely related species, the Aldabra tortoise. So far, it looks like the introduction is a success The tortoise seems to know instinctly not to eat the shoots of the rare ebony tree but to wait until the tree bears fruit. The seeds of the tree geminate better if they have been through the stomach of the tortoise and are now becoming more common. The tortoises also seem to be munching away on the saplings of introduced plants.
That's great. :bolian:

You're proposing that we go backwards in time, find humpback whales, then bring them foward in time, drop 'em off, and hope to Hell they tell this probe what to do with itself!

I, for one, look forward to eating a mamoth burger with a fried dodo egg on top with a side of bald eagle rotini

Why do folks want to clone extinct creatures so that they could eat the meat or fry it's egg. That is the reason why they became extinct in the first place.:cardie:

Cloning costs money. Somehow you need to get a return on investment. So you sell the food.

Bald Eagles aren't extinct. You can get that side right now. (But I assume there would be a hefty fine and maybe jail time)

I'd love to see dinosaurs of course, but two others that would be fascinating to me are Smilodon and Megalodon. Large, powerful predators like those just get the adrenaline pumping! Would it be a good idea to do so? Highly doubtful. Unless you want to show up the Discovery channel by releasing a Megalodon in the middle of their fake documentary! :D

Eventually this thread will have to be merged with the "What Did You Have for Dinner?" thread.

Where is everyone's sense of discovery and fun? If it can be done, I say do it.

Although I'm for it, on the other hand, would they actually be how they should be? Or would we just make a best guess at how we think they should be.

I remember when I read Jurassic Park, there was a discussion about how the Dinosaurs were too aggressive, too fast and how they could change them to be more docile for the visitors to the park and would be more satisfying.

Just because we can do a thing, doesn't necessarily mean we must do that thing.

Personally, I think we should perfect cloning of animals that haven't become extinct yet.

The unicorn is the national animal of Scotland. The national animal of Wales is the Welsh Dragon.

Frankly, I think it'd be kind of cool to see a living dodo or thylacine. Or a Great Auk.

Yeah, it'd be really cool to clone some of the extinct animals. But there is no longer a place for them in the wild, so they would need to be kept in captivity.
