I hadnt really noticed the interior of the Delta Flyer before.. But as I am watching the episode nightingale, I see there is a SLEW of TOS -esque dials and gizmo's and whirly gigs on the helm!!!


Where the fuck are the lcars stations?? WTF is with this throttle bullshit? Is Tom for real (you know it was his cracked out Captain Proton hysteria that did all the decorating)


I cant believe b'llana and SEVEN would tolerate this guilty pleasure pandering..

I know some of you will "appreciate" this twisted nostalgia.. but COME ON people.. it is just, 24th century ghetto... Might as well re-christen it the Delta Flying Cadillac and call it a day!!!

Tom put those controls there because he's a fan of old time science fiction. He likes the Buck Rogers-style manual controls, so that's why the Flyer has them.

Yeah I more or less figured that.. Tom deserves an ass whup. He single handedly set white people back 1000 years..

I don't see how Tom's sci-fi habits have anything to do with white people, unless that's just some generic catch all racial insult I missed.
 
B'Elanna was distracted by her depression and didn't want to work on the Flyer at all.

Tuvok tried to protest the "cool aspects" of Tom's exterior design but since it didn't detract from function, Tom prevailed.

You'll be happy that in the future (Timeless) the Flyer had (IIRC) holographic 3D controls. :bolian:

I don't understand your reaction at all. Frankly, if given the chance, I probably would have done the same thing. I agree with Tom, I would want to "feel" the vessel I'm piloting, not just press buttons. Apparently, for precision flying a joystick is the way to go - from the NX-01 to the Enterprise-E

As someone with impaired vision, I applaud Tom's decision to make the controls usable by feel as well as by sight. Back in the days when I had a rotary dial phone, I could use that thing by feel, in the pitch dark when I had to. I could use a manual or electric typewriter without looking at it, because I could feel everything with my fingers.

People are so damned spoiled and lazy these days...
 
I wasn't going to comment on the "white people" statement, but I have to agree with Timewalker and others that's its not relevant at all and is pretty offensive. People are people. Trek, most of all, recognizes that fact and extends that philosophy to include not just humans, but to all species.
 
And yeah... Tom is a history buff and enjoys classic sci-fi, so...it's only natural that his ship might reflect that passion.
 
I liked that the Flyer had classic controls. It's always been a pet peeve of mine in Trek that the ships pretty much can fly themselves. Like Tom Said in Extreme Risk, he wanted to actually feel what he was flying. I don't blame him.
 
The Flyer was constructed in Extreme Risk. Tom actually brought up a good point in my opinion about not wanting to just tap pannels but rather have controls he could feel
