After having to wait six years for Season 2 to get released, Warner Archives released Season 3 on DVD-R a mere 7 months after Season 2.

The more seasons that get released, the better I find this show is when compared to "Smallville".

So far I'm up to "Carnival" (last episode on Disc 1) and the video quality has been all over the place. "Carnival" looks like it came from a Digital Betacam transfer, while both parts of "Roads Not Taken', with all the SFX, look like the came from a composite source such as U-Matic or a few scenes even have a VHS-quality look, not to mention that there are digital compression artifacts compounding the issue, so you get a few scenes of vertical blockiness. Warner should've made some better quality transfers for this release, but I guess they just went with whatever tapes were already in the vault.

So far I haven't seen any preview trailers, but all the episodes do appear to be uncut.

Otherwise, Audio is in Stereo (tiny bit of surround, but not much).

I'm waiting for my copy to arrive from Amazon.

Refresh my memory: Is the third season when the main characters began working for an agency that investigated strange phenomena?

Unfortunately yes. It's called the Berau for Extranormal Matters.

Shame about the crappy transfers. I remember hearing that Gerard Christopher had either the original tapes or some high quality copies, but apparently Warners didn't even bother asking for them.

They weren't so bad. Better than my twenty three year old VHS copies, that's for sure.

Well Warner Brothers has the original film masters in their vaults. From what I've heard Gerard Christopher has VHS copies---at best S-VHS, but the tapes would've been mastered from the broadcast masters (whether they be 3/4 or Betacam SP---I've even heard that once Digital Betacam came on the market in 93 the Salkinds had the film masters transferred to that).
