The New KFC Commercials

What is so amusing about people "eating the bones" of KFC's chicken? I understand that they're trying to market their boneless chicken recipes, but why is it funny that a father starts freaking out because he thinks his children are eating something they shouldn't be? I don't get it.

I've only seen one of these, and it was a while ago, but isn't the "joke" that they thought the chicken tasted so good that they just voraciously devoured the whole thing, seemingly with the bones and all (though obviously not since it's boneless), without even knowing it until afterwards? The humor --and I use that word loosely in this case-- is supposed to come from them losing all control of themselves and just eating the entire thing in one sitting, I think, and then horrifyingly reacting to the idea of eating the (non-existent) bones.

I hated the Colonel, with his wee beady eyes!!

The father freaks out because he thinks the kids ate the chicken, bones and all. I mean, God forbid the voracious teens should choke or get a perforated esophagus or something from swallowing a chicken bone.

"Honey, the kids are eating the bones! Call 911!"

I think the commercial is a sly dig at today's overprotective "helicopter parents." OTOH, there are probably plenty of parents these days who actually would react in horror if they thought their kids were eating chicken bones.

(Actually, I think the dad trying to talk "hip" is kind of funny.)

EDIT: I see they've also got one where the kids think the dad ate the bones. So I guess it works both ways.

Is the joke that the kids think KFC is actually food?
Have you tasted KFC chicken? It's actually pretty good when it's done right.

I've noticed a lot of variation among individual franchisees, though. Some have sloppy quality control and the food is too greasy or otherwise not up to standard.

I have no idea how it is done in the US but in the UK it is generally highly greasy slop.
