Star Trek sheet music

Hello everyone,

I´m not sure, whether this is the right place to post this. If it´s not, I´d be happy if a moderator would direct me accordingly.

Several years ago, at age 34, I started playing the violin. As soon as it started to sound like music - ;) - I also wanted to play music from movie and TV soundtracks - naturally Star Trek was on my "wish list". What music notes I have found so far are just some of the main themes (abridged and simplified) in what they call "fake books". What I really would like however, are complete pieces - not just the themes and not just a few lines of notes here and there.

So here is my question: Does anyone know of proper Star Trek sheet music arranged for violin? I´d be most interested in music from TMP (like Ilia´s Theme, The Enterprise, etc.), but anything Trek would be most welcome.

Thanks a lot and keep on trekking.

Mario

I've used musicnotes.com for the past few years. Not sure if they have exactly what you're looking for.

I used to have the piano sheet music for TNG and DS9 many years ago, but I've lost them over the years. Of course, those were the themes arranged for piano. Not sure if individual parts from the scores are readily available. I have a feeling you'd have to purchase the entire score to get individual parts, but I'm not sure. Maybe get in touch with a local college that has a school of music? Perhaps a music professor would be able to point you in the right direction. Good luck!

From what I know, from experience and conversations with a friend who was once the librarian for the L.A. Philharmonic, such arrangements are rare and probably expensive to obtain. It would make more sense to transcribe for yourself. You can use freeware, like Audacity, to slow down the music and isolate instruments and Lilypond (freeware) or Noteflight (cloud) to notate.

BTW, you never say in what context you will be playing this music. Is it just for your private use? Are you looking only for the first violin part, or the entire theme covered by all instruments? Could you play double stops to give the full effect of Ilia's Theme, for instance?

I thank you both for your input - I had a thought it wouldn´t be easy ;)

@ Bad thoughts

I´d be playing it just by myself, so I´m looking for the basic melodies of the concert pieces arranged for a single violin. So far my ability to play double stops is somewhat ... limited. I´d prefer single-note arrangements :)
But I guess I´ll have to follow your suggestion and try to transcribe the pieces myself. I wasn´t aware that there´s freeware for that, too.

Thanks again
Mario

After reading your OP, I played Ilia's Theme on Youtube and was able to play most of it immediately on mandolin. It's not too difficult: it's more of a matter of deciding what to do when the theme moves to piano, etc.

There are other programs to help out (like Slowdowner), which does a slightly better job at keeping a good pitch when reducing speed a lot. You should start by committing the tune to memory, playing the track a few times to make it as immediately familiar as possible. Load the track into whatever program you intend to use. Bring the speed down incrementally, enough so that you can get a clear notion of the pitches and embellishments without losing resolution. Pick a section of the melody, have it repeat several times, and learn to play it. When you have it down, notate it. Move on to the next segment.

I never would have thought of using a program to slow down the original music! Thanks for that tip and the method you suggested :techman::techman:

I´ll try that ... as soon as I can find the time ;)
