I'm fond of them all, but my preferred series is The Next Generation.

Well, if you're asking in generic fashion...

Characters: I just loved TNG's overall cast the best. The only problem with them is they were rather cliquish and didn't interact with outsiders all too often or have drama among themselves. If we're counting secondary characters and guest stars DS9 runs away with it.

Story: No contest, DS9 is the only Trek series that actually had an overall direction to it's story and multiple subplots that all tied together.

Special Effects: I gotta give that one to Voyager. They did pull off some remarkable effects and cool shots.

Overall package? Easily DS9. There was drama, a compelling story and while the effects are there to enhance the story, they didn't slouch in that department either.

For me, DS9 is the best overall, but TNG is a very close second. Voyager's good episodes are not far behind, but Voyager did not have good episodes very often.

I came to TOS later in life. There are a lot of episodes of it I love, some that are pretty forgettable, and a good deal that are just awful.

    Enterprise was terrible.

    Overall:
    TOS: B+
    TNG: A+
    DS9: A+
    VOY: C
    ENT: D

Wow, I have to give multiple answers to this.

For me, a toss up between TOS and TNG. If you count the TOS movies, I have more emotional connection to the Kirk-Spock-McCoy dynamic, but I think the TNG characters had more time to develop themselves, and the characters definitely had more growth.

Hands down, DS9, as it was the most serial of all Trek. That is what was so lacking in the other series, as they were all mostly episodic. DS9 took the groundwork TNG had laid for referring back to previous episodes, etc, and ran with it.

Not counting movies, I thought Enterprise FX were the best, but makes sense since it was the latest. Voyager towards the last few seasons rivals Enterprise, as does DS9.

But if you ask me what my over all favorite trek TV series (not including movies) is, then it is TNG. But it is a close call, as I like all the series.

    Overall:
    TNG: A+
    DS9: A
    TOS: B+
    VOY: B- to C+
    ENT: B- to C+

Lord, I hate this question, but like Mysterion, my first love is TOS followed by DS9.

DS9 is supreme in all of TV Land

TOS and TNG are equal in my eyes, just a notch below DS9.

    There are other Trek series?

    DS9 hands down.

Mature, arc driven, superb writing and cast, epic with depth and quality.

    Easily the best Trek show...

DS9 hands down on all of them.

Best good story to crap story ratio.
    Fleshed out well used characters
    And brilliant battles.

Star Trek is easily my favorite followed by seasons one and two of The Next Generation and season four of Enterprise.

If the rest of the series/seasons fell into a black hole, I wouldn't miss them.

I found that Deep Space Nine had the most episodes that were simply unwatchable, more than Voyager or Enterprise. It had some masterpieces but they were buried underneath far too many rubbish episodes.

The first two seasons of all of the shows from TNG onwards are largely crap.

TNG and DS9 improved immensely, Voyager only slightly and Enterprise season four was rather good.
