STID "tracking" for $85-90 million opening [U.S. box office]

^ Local AMC and Regal theaters have ID listed through this Sunday. Beyond that the upcoming schedules are incomplete.

I wonder if the release of World War Z will push Trek out of many of the theatres this weekend?

Don't forget about Monsters University also. Trek will be out of the theater by me Friday.

World War Z is a Paramount film as well. I wouldn't think they'd want to compete against themselves.

I think the decision also has to do with that my theater has 12 screens. A theater a half hour from me with more screens will still have Trek.

While Nemesis was so bad that Maid in Manhattan beat it, I'm still convinced that The Two Towers played a role. It was such a huge juggernaut film released only 5 days after Nemesis. Naturally, Nemesis was over shadowed by it.

Of course, if Nemesis wasn't a train wreck it probably would have at least beat Maid in Manhattan opening weekend. Even then, The Two Towers would have demolished Nemesis when it opened a mere 5 days later.

In fairness to Nemesis, Maid in Manhattan opened in more theaters. Not sure why a romcom would be in more theaters than a sci-fi action film, but it was.

That's true... IIRC, the 30 screen AMC in Easton (Columbus, OH) still was showing ST09 a month after it had left the other first run theaters (it was showing the "dollar" theaters at the time).

STID is now out of most theatres here, in Australia. I might try and catch it a fifth time, if I can find somewhere that is still showing it.

Same audience too.

STiD will be in 1,565 theaters this weekend, down 766 theaters from the 2,331 it was in last weekend.

I have confirmed that it will be gone from Morgantown as of tomorrow. :(

And there will be no second run showings, unlike with Trek 2009, because the Warner Theater downtown closed in 2010.

STID is Now Gone From Cinemas Here

Wow - with "Despicable Me", "Monsters University" and World War Z" opening here yesterday in Australia I checked my local cinema listings to see how many sessions were left for STID and was surprised to see it is now gone!

Didn't really matter as once was MORE than enough for me but ....wow - REALLY?!? THAT quickly?

There must be some sharp pencil boys at Paramount who are seriously wondering what happened!

Yep, gone in Parkersburg too, but still at least one more week in Charleston and Wheeling just in case you want to make a road trip! :)

Re: STID is Now Gone From Cinemas Here

Moving to the box office thread, since there's similar discussion in there and not much new content here.

It is a better film and deserves to play longer.

That and the fact cinemas will play a film as long as people are turning up.

People stopped coming to see Star Trek: The Fast and The Furious(thanks RLM!!!)but are still coming to see IM3.

Understandable and as Dennis said elsewhere - the audience is always right!

Of course, that's not true at all. People are still coming to see both of those films. More people are coming to see IM3, that's all.

But man are people twisting, now that the international take is north of 400 million, to try to convince themselves that STID is not a success.
