I blame it on the marketing team.

I blame it on Gene Roddenberry. If his ashes had stopped their spinning long enough to publicly endorse the fucking thing and cash the studio's check it would have made a billion dollars domestic.

Um, the Jennifer Lopez film 'Maid in Manhattan' - beat 'Star Trek: Nemesis' on their opening weekend in 2002. I don't think 'The Lord of the Rings' film had much to do with the demise of NEM; more the bad pre-release reviews and bad word of mouth after release. It was more due to the fact that the movie going public was tired of paying movie ticket prices to see a bad two hour TV episode on the big screen.

Well being against two holiday period blockbusters sure didn't help.

While Nemesis was so bad that Maid in Manhattan beat it, I'm still convinced that The Two Towers played a role. It was such a huge juggernaut film released only 5 days after Nemesis. Naturally, Nemesis was over shadowed by it.

Of course, if Nemesis wasn't a train wreck it probably would have at least beat Maid in Manhattan opening weekend. Even then, The Two Towers would have demolished Nemesis when it opened a mere 5 days later.

Nemesis never had a chance, nobody came out to see if it was good nor not. There was no usual "Star Trek Opening Weekend" to show anyone cared enough to see it. Even Star Trek V had a solid opening weekend before people decided once was enough.

Maid in Manhattan made more money because even fans were no longer interested.

I wonder if the release of World War Z will push Trek out of many of the theatres this weekend?
