Yea, you have to train your ear for it, but, once you do, they are some fantastic stories, especially for those who think the TV Show gets too "Kiddie" for their taste.

The first couple I tried (The Gallifrey Adventures Series 1 - President Romana, her freind Leela and both their K9 Units) I had a difficult time catching what was going on, but, I stuck with it, and on a relisten, I was able to make complete sense of it.

I personally listen to Audioplays/Audiobooks on my commute to and from work, so, I am a captive audience at that point. I don't find myself popping in an audio story while I'm in the house though, for that I would pop in a Doctor Who DVD. The Audioplays, actually are easier to follow, IMHO, then Audiobooks, because you do have seperate Actors for each character, and although some of them may sound alike at first, you can quickly learn to tell them apart.

@Pindar, thanks, I'll be checking into those as soon as I get home from work. (I've got a massive backlog of Evelyn/Colin stories to listen to still - about 75% of the way through Mordant's need, so will likely be starting on the Six/Evelyn's in a couple of weeks - but, that'll only last me about a month, so, time to start stocking up again soon)

    Wow, what a haul.

1 that's 1hr 15min, 2 more just under an hour, and 5 more between 23min and 33min. I've never tried any of The Unit Stories, so, I'm looking forward to hearing that one and William Russel reading will be cool (I assume he'll be reading the First Doctor like in Companion Chronicles?) A Dalek Adventure, and a Bernice Summerfield...

Now I understand, I've been conned, they're giving me a hit of different ranges, 'cause they know I'll like 'em and come looking for more to buy

This is actually pretty cool, after having purchased all the Colin/Evelyn Stories, I'll be looking for something to go in between them and Gallifrey, which doesn't come out until late November, I believe. Though, I've been wating to get Blake's 7 Audios as well at some point (Damned expensive habit, LOL)

Thank you for that link. I knew Big Finish released a couple of audio plays on Sound Cloud recently and even downloaded one of them (Urgent Calls), but I didn't think to check to see if they had others. I'm especially thankful because I've been trying to find a copy of Veiled Leopard on eBay at a reasonable price for ages now.

Big Finish has announced this year's subscriber free cd, and it's a whopper of a tale.

It is ONLY available to those who have a subscription to the main range that includes December 2013 (either six or 12 month sub).

The title? The Trial of the Valeyard. Starring Michael Jayston and Colin Baker.

    Can. Not. Freaking. Wait!

What exactly does subscription entail? Monthly Fee, How many freebies versus fees, minimum purchase amount, is that purchase a set thing that only counts ...

I spotted a few recently on the BF facebook page.

I had a look back through all the sound cloud stuff.

    It's pretty decent, good marketing.

It varies. The prices I'll show are based on the last time I did a subscription, so they may change (plus, exchange rates and stuff) ... Shipping is included with subs.

Six month is $112, and you get six monthly CDs. If there is a freebie/bonus released during those releases (always either November or December), you get that included, for a total of either 6 or 7 CDs, depending on schedule.

Full year is $224, and you get 12 monthly CDs. You also get the bonus release. You also get your choice of any single CD (monthly are always double CDs), for a total of 14 CDs.

All subs include downloads, with bonus files (even longer interviews than on the CDs, full scripts in PDF) and bonus download-only one-part stories at random times through the year.

A sub to the Companion Chronicles (which is ending soon) is $136 for 12, or $72 for six.

A sub to 12 of the "early years" CDs (12 continuous releases, between #1 and #50) is $160. They are CD-only, and do not include downloads. They would include the bonus CD choice.

I think that's every variation of the subs.

    I can breathe. lmao!

Also announced in the cast? Lynda B, returning as The Inquisitor.

So yeah, time to save up for a year's sub.

OK, so a subscription pays for the monthly releases of the category you subscribe to for the length of time you subscribe? you don't have to purchase a certain number of disks in that line, on top of the Subscription fee?

Pretty much. Basically, you're pre-ordering either 6 or 12 months at a time (of whatever range you choose), and get a discount, bonus stuff, and free shipping.

Looking at it you'd have to start with the August release - 176. Starlight Robbery but that's the middle part of a trilogy so you may be better starting with the second September release 178. Fanfare For The Common Men which is the first part of a 50th anniversary themed trilogy they are doing - one story each for Davison, Baker & McCoy all set in 1963.

I saw that. She was a fine addition to the Gallifrey series so I know she'll be great here, too. I just wish Bonnie Langford was in it as well.

In the lap of squalor I assure you.
    She's a chubby chaser.

(Notice how quickly Melanie abandoned the thin 7th Doctor when she got a good look at Glitz's pie-belly?)

Who is the fat man she can cling to and feed diet shakes in/on Gallifrey?

If I'm reading this right, it sounds like a monthly sort of "book club" but with audios, and done online. Is there any interest in doing our own here, with each month's title? At 3 bucks, it's something most may be able to afford, and for those who have been listening for a long time, maybe they haven't heard each month's story in awhile (depending on what those later stories are).

Provided there are others who would be up for discussing, I'll start a new thread next weekend. That should give people time to get it and give it a listen.

Then again, if no one is up for it, that's cool too.
