Michael Douglas: Bush's fault!

There's a lot of hype in these articles that has nothing to do with the actual Douglas quotes. Such as the "marathon sessions".

Deckerd are you saying it's more revolting for an old man to talk like that than a young man?

I think it's revolting for any man to do it but an old man should know better.

All he has said according to the articles linked is that he got cancer from HPV spread by a particular sex act. If being this graphic is revolting we're screwed for getting information out there.

I think what's wrong with this story is how the article's written, at least moreso than what Michael Douglas said in the interview they're quoting. Phrases like "straight from the vagina-glazed mouth" amp up the salaciousness. That said, his insistence that performing more cunnilingus helped facilitate his treatment doesn't help.

The whole tone of the article makes it a haha, how disgusting joke. It's fucking cancer.

You know what? People get cancer all different ways and the fact he was promiscuous, smoker and drinker probably all contributed. It won't change anything and it's prurient and frankly revolting that an old degenerate got all this airtime to tell everyone how he suffered for his art.

So you really don't like him, eh?

Having told plenty of people and probably will tell plenty more about the HPV virus and how it causes cancer and how it's sexually transmitted and having been AMAZED at how few people actually know this I'm glad for the headline. I don't think it's any more prurient than saying, "Yes I got AIDS because I did not wear condoms". Would you say that's prurient or is it just the word cunnalingus which grosses you out?

I still remember when I first learned that cervical cancer was exclusively a sexually transmitted disease.

It made so much sense.

A family friend lost his first wife, the mother of his 3 children, to cervical cancer when she was just in her 40's.

15 years later, he lost his second wife to the same, dread disease.

Years after these deaths, I listened to a lecture on how every sample of cervical cancer investigated, in every country on Earth, was infected with HPV. Pretty damning evidence.

Certainly many factors increased Mr. Douglas' risk for acquiring his oral cancer, and smoking/alcohol are definately 2 of them but let us not lose sight that we are talking HPV as the causative agent for this cancer and oral sex as its mode of transmission. A practice that can affect/infect partners in M/F, M/M & F/F relationships.

As the above article suggests, HPV is so prevalent that within just a few years of becoming sexually active one can become infected. To prevent infection, you must consider vaccination, barrier methods (condoms, dental dams) , celibacy and OF COURSE knowledge.

Thinking of Michael Douglas' sexual activities may freak some people out, but if that gets the topic in front of the main stream media more aggressively and saves some poor guys and gals lives then I say hurray for "dirty old men".

I'd just like to applaud JanewayRulz for speaking out in favour of education that might save lives, even if it's embarrassing to talk about.

I commented on the Yahoo News story about the fact that everyone, male and female, below the age of 26 should get the vaccine because at the very least it protects you against the most common type of genital warts.

It got a few stupid comments, two thumbs up, and eight thumbs down. I guess everyone is a lover of cancer and warts!

I'm 27.5 and I'd like to get the vaccine, I'm not sure why people are so stupid. All I can think is that we have people who think some white god delivers babies on doorsteps and the health education in the USA is a joke.

In the UK all girls are vaccinated at school in the 12-13 and 17-18 age ranges. After that, medical research has shown it's too late. Research is not pejorative, you understand, and has been peer reviewed.

Michael Douglas to Record PSA Encouraging Men to Be Less Generous Lovers: Oscar-winning actor Michael Douglas followed up his heroic admission this week that performing oral sex on women contributed to his getting throat cancer, by agreeing to star in a public service announcement that encourages men to put their health first by being less generous lovers.

Hollywood & Swine??? ;)

Yep. I hope no one thought that was serious.

Why is it too late?

Also how easy is it to test males for the HPV virus?

I think it's to do with sexual activity. As to the male thing, far more women die of cervical cancer than men die of HPV related cancer in their throats. It's a numbers thang.

Women get cervical cancer from the men for the most part. That's why testing your man for HPV would be useful. I'm wondering how easy the test is and how accurate.
