What are you reading?

I am reading another Icelandic mystery novel - Someone to Watch Over Me by Yrsa Sigurdardottir.

I can smell the hakarl and brennevin now...

Both of these got a mention in this novel but only because Thora's boyfriend is a German and her friends kept inviting him to dinner parties so that they could serve hakarl and brennevin to him. He gamely played the naive foreigner when they did.

I am now reading "The Cleaner" by Paul Cleave. It is about a New Zealand serial killer who decides to investigates when a copycat's killer crime is attributed to him.

I have finished "The Cleaner". Quite a violent book. 3.5/5.

I have started reading The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga. It is one of several books from 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die that I have selected to read this year.

While we are talking books a question that I might as well ask here -

What is the longest book you have read? I think mine might be A Storm of Swords (around 1200 pages).

Edited to add - I have read The Bible completely twice - King James version and The Good News Bible- so one of those might have been longer.

currently reading "Drawn" by James Hankins.

Longest book I have read was "It" which was 1104 pages and "The Terror" at 992 pages by Dan Simmons.

I might have to try those Icelandic novels you read :)

What is the longest book you have read?

besides the harry potter books Musashi by Eiji Yoshikawa clocked in at 970 pages and my current read, The Tale of Genji by Murasaki Shikibu is 1,182 pages Longest book series I have read is the complete Dresden Files to date (15 books, few comics) longest manga series I have read is Detective Conan/Case Closed up to issue 24

I know I've definitely read books in the 7/8/900 bracket, not sure if I've read much beyond this. The last big book was 11/22/63 which, I think, is close to 900 pages.

Words can't do those two 'foods' justice.

I've been reading several of the Harry Bosch series by Michael Connelly. Never realized how much I liked cop drama.

I have started reading The Man in the High Castle by Philip K Dick and it is the first PKD book I have read since the 1990s. Back then I could only afford second-hand books, or borrow from the library, so I would only find an occasional PKD book to read and this was one that always alluded me.

I have finished reading The Man in the High Castle and I found it disappointing. I have previous enjoyed PKD's works but it has been at least 15 years since I have read anything written by him so maybe my tastes have changed too much since then.

I have decided that my next reads will be The Story of Blanche and Marie by Per Olov Enquist. It is a novel about Marie Curie and her lab assistant,Blanche Wittman and my e-book read will be A Fado by the River by Geoffrey Wells.

Currently "Doctor Who: Shadows Of Avalon" & "Fast Forward: Confessions of a porn screenwriter"

I finished Under the Dome a few days ago and wanted to stew on it. I read it because I'm looking forward to the TV show that is coming up. I really do hope they stray from the book a lot. Under the Dome is a bad book, a readable but bad book. Stephen Kings greatest ability is to write as if someone is talking to you. It works well with long, drawn out plots to keep you interested and going. However on works like this, where everyone is a walking cliche and misogyny abounds, it comes off as bad fan fiction. In fact change the names and this could be Lost fan fiction. I felt as reading it that SK said to himself after watching Lost, I want to write a better Lost and sorry he failed.

Now I'm reading book two of Songs of Fire and Ice, A Clash of Kings. I just started watching season two of Game of Thrones on BluRay and I'm four episodes in. What I do is watch episodes and follow closely with the book. I enjoy seeing the changes and differences and where they keep faithful to the book. I have season three of Games of Thrones on my DVR, I got finally got HBO. I figure that I can go directly into Season three after season two and should be done in time for season four and the next book.

Currently downloading Joe Hill's novel NOS4R2 in audiobook form. Can hardly believe that I've just chosen to listen to nineteen hours of Kate Mulgrew's voice.

I finished reading A Fado by the River. The events of the book takes place in Mozambique in 1974 and in Portugal 38 years later. A man finds that someone is trying to blackmail him over the death of a woman in Mozambique, but is she really dead, and if she is did he kill her? 3/5.

I am now reading Mr Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan.
