the "spoiled" reviews sound ridiculous and I have a hard time believing them. Certain aspects of them make sense while the rest seems to be made up by a ten year old.
In Australia, a few decades ago, our premiere of "ST III: The Search for Spock" was delayed (from 1st June 1984, when the USA got it, till
6th December!) because the original cinema it was
supposed to open in was still being built. Six months! And, even then, the cinema was still a whole in the ground and they chose a different one. I think we were supposed to have it in the August school holidays. By the time the film did come out, even the sea-freighted copies of the novelization and comic adaptation were on local bookshop shelves!
I stupidly spoiled myself by reading every detail about the movie. And yes, we found that just reading spoilers not only spoiled the movie, but made it sound like it was "made up by a ten year old". Spock is alive? He came back
as a baby? He ages with the planet? Desert and snow in the same sector? A starship goes putt, putt, putt, and stops dead in space?
Do you think I learned my lesson? Nah, I pretty much spoiled myself for ST IV and V (and "Generations"), too.
The simple solution? Don't spoil yourself. The secrecy is part of the
fun.
