Officer shot and killed at MIT...

It's possible. I thought it was a computer lab, but I may be wrong. My familiarity with the layout of MIT begins and ends on Mass Ave.

Can someone explain the course of events? I read a story which said that there was a car-chase. Police took into custody a naked guy (they had him take off all his clothes to apparently make sure he was not wearing any explosives)... then I read that 1 is dead after a shoot-out and another is at large in a Boston suburb?

So was there 3 suspects? Is the naked guy not related to this? Is the naked guy the one who died and if his wounds were so bad from a shoot-out how did he manage to take off his clothes?

The naked guy was probably the one who died from internal wounds and blast damage. All night I'd heard that suspect #2 was born in the US and was the missing kid from Brown, but now I'm hearing from official sources that both suspects are from Chechnya and have only been here a year, and that suspect #2 is named Zakar Sarnev. Al Qaeda has been recruiting in Chechnya to get bombers who could pass more easily through Western security.

Naked guy was a hostage. Only two guys.

Killed MIT cop. Fled and stole care from naked guy. War broke out, grenades and bombs thrown at police. One terrorist died. The other is lose with bombs and shit. Everything is locked down and closed. He isn't going to be caught alive. Very dangerous bitch.

Ah, I gotcha. That hostage is lucky to be alive. Guess the terrorists kept him alive for that purpose, but given the dangerous nature of them I think the police would have been within their rights to shoot out the car regardless of a hostage situation or not.

I'm sure the cops did. Have you seen the video? Sounded like Iraq the night Bush invaded. Complete madness.

The guy on the ground in a video I think is naked guy.

Msnbc says they robbed a 7-11, stoll a car, then killed the MIT police officer.

They were brothers, lived together in the US legally for the last year, and may have military experience and from Chechnya.

This is crazy. They have found at least one more device, near downtown (Comm Ave.) They are warning us of "controlled detonations".

Wow, I just heard the list of everything closed down in Boston and the surrounding area and it was pretty long. Sounded like almost all colleges, all schools, etc... obviously the area that the suspect fleed into has been completely shut down and everyone is ordered to remain in their homes while police go door to door.

The school thing may also be (with the report of another device found) that they don't know if there had been devices planted at other colleges or schools since they were at MIT.

Boston EOD command is informing Boston PD over radio that they will be condoucting controlled detonations of devices found. Appears that the suspect is dropping pipe bombs as he fled, or is fleeing along a pre planned route mined with explosives.

Boston is closed. There are bombs everyone and a crazy guy on the lose. Plus with the trains and buses not running you can't get to work anyways.

Regarding the Brown University student, Sunil Tripathi: those reports were wrong, were always unconfirmed and were, in my opinion, a strong example of the downsides of crowdsourcing this kind of thing; everyone and his uncle thinks he's a genius sleuth and then fingers start being pointed. (A high school sophomore from the Boston area, a young man who is of Moroccan descent, was also the victim of this kind of modern-age witch hunt. It's my understanding that he still fears for his safety.)

There is talk online that the second suspect may have modified his appearance in an attempt to look more like the missing brown student in an attempt to throw off law enforcement.

By "talk online" you mean "someone said some shit on reddit".

Not on redit... Last I heard redit was down because it was getting ddosed.

Eta: BPD is issuing a waring to all officers that suspect may be wearing a suicide vest based on "what the suspect in custody had on him".

I am so pleased that it isn't Sunil. I only started to believe it was him when his name started to appear in online newspaper reports. His family seem to be so loving and want him back so much, if the false reports help his family find him maybe some good might come out of him being wrongly identified Before his name was cleared my eyes filled with tears when I saw the beautiful video his family posted on YouTube hoping it would help them get him back.
