Silliness from Saudi Arabia

Sorry girls, no photos of the men available

It’s a good problem to have, but it’s still a problem for three men who have reportedly been deported from Saudi Arabia for being “too handsome.”

The men were visiting Saudi Arabia from the United Arab Emirates to attend the annual Jenadrivah Heritage & Cultural Festival in Riyadh. They were apparently minding their own business when members of Saudi Arabia’s religion police entered the pavilion and forcibly removed them from the festival. Their offense? They were considered “too handsome” to stay for fear that women would find them irresistible, according to the Arabic-language newspaper Elaph.

Rest of story

So what happens to these dudes in their homeland? Do they get kicked out of everywhere they go?

And why the hell does this never happen in reverse? Roving gangs of hot babes attacking defenseless middle aged guys?

Comments from Emaratis are saying that if handsome men had to cover up than no Saudi man would have to because they are all so ugly but there are many, many handsome men in UAE.

That has to be one of the best reasons to be deported ever. They can do a remake of 'I'm Too Sexy' in all good conscience now.

The UAE is fairly progressive as middle-eastern countries go. Dubai in particular is very liberal. If not for the Arabic street signs it could be any number of cities in the US or Europe.

Well, actually it's cleaner than most cities in the US or Europe. And the skyline is more impressive.

Saudi Arabia, by comparison, is in the stone age.

About time to, its been unfair to us big ugly buggers for so long, now we have a law to even the playing field, ok when i saw "even" i really mean puts them out of the field altogether. :p

From an UAE journalist who has first hand experience of the morality police in Saudi Arabia.

It must be difficult to be a beautiful woman or a handsome man, the target of so much "unwanted" attention. As three Emirati men reportedly discovered at a cultural festival in Saudi Arabia, being "too handsome" can even get you deported.

Now the hunt for these three is on, because naturally, many women are curious to meet them and see what exactly made them "too handsome". All we know is that they returned to Abu Dhabi.......

and

One of my male friends got the "you are too handsome" treatment while meeting us at a family restaurant. He was wearing a regular pair of jeans and a loose white shirt, but was told to go home and put on "less tight" clothes and asked to keep his gaze down, since his light-green eyes were "too attractive."
He fought back, saying he "can't undo what Allah has given me". He even cracked a joke: "Even if I didn't shave or brush my hair, I don't think I would look ugly enough."
Adding oil to the fire, a group of women stepping out of a car nearby seemed to give my friend a thorough up-and-down inspection, which left the morality police fuming. They literally pushed the man to go home "now."
"And get married. It is a cover for you," one of them said as my friend was escorted to his car.
This very handsome friend is still walking about Jeddah breaking women's hearts - and annoying the commission whenever he can.
At the time of the incident, the rest of us debated rescuing him, but we were too amused, and wanted to see for a change how men get treated by the morality police.

The article in Laser's linky is pretty scary, because you can pick up infinitesimal amounts of drugs just about anywhere. A coworker of mine almost lost his job because a drug dog detected drugs on him. They eventually figured out that the scent was on money in his wallet -- change from when he had stopped somewhere for breakfast on the way to work.

Maybe it happened at terminal 1 or 2. One of those, I forget which, I heard was rather shady. I've only been to Terminal 3 (exclusively Emirates) and I've never seen excessive security or drug tests or whatnot. It's just another airport and passport control point.
