Marvel planning Guardians of the Galaxy movie!

Merle as Yondu? :cardie: Weird choice. I never thought of Yondu as that old, for one thing.

If this means all the original Guardians will be present, my interest level has increased.

I thought they were pretty cool in the Avengers cartoon appearance.

The space version of the Avengers

A very odd choice for a movie but maybe Marvel is testing if the scifi comic book genre is alive, it might open the door for other movies

They seem silly. No comparison to the Avengers. Not really interested in this movie.

I actually just watched that Avengers: EMH a couple weeks ago, and I was surprised they went with such a different team than what we are getting in the movie.

Maybe the original Guardians are all old now (sort of a passing the torch-type thing). Of course, they don't need all of them. Since I have genuinely no knowledge of this comic, is Yondu particularly significant?

You mean significant in being the one who should pass the torch? Not really. Vance Astro was the leader. Everybody was really of equal significance.

Wow. I can't say that I ever realized that Groot pre-dated the Fantastic Four. Check out the cover to Groot's first appearance in 1960's Tales to Astonish 13, drawn by none other than Jack Kirby himself!

Ha! Even though he seems to have had an expanded vocabulary back in the day, I notice that he still gets his catchphrase in!

I'm shocked there's a character on the movie team that hasn't been shown in the recent decade of comics.

James Gunn talks Guardians of the Galaxy...

"I do think we’re very, very different from Star Wars. Some of the concept art that came out is under my tutelage, and some of it is before my tutelage. The concept art that came out is only stuff that was on the big Marvel collected disc set, talking about phase two and it had some stuff from Guardians. Some of the art by Charlie Wen and the guys. The Rocket Racoon that was by itself was an early version of my Rocket that I dealt with Charlie when developing. He doesn’t look so much like that anymore, but there’s a lot of similarities in that he’s more of a grounded, real little creature as opposed to a cartoonish thing."

"I was very specific that I wanted it to be somebody really extraordinary. I really had Robert Downey Jr. in mind a lot. You had this guy who came in and he inhabited Tony Stark, when you first saw Tony Stark he blew your mind, you couldn’t believe what you were seeing. I knew that I needed somebody to blow my mind like that. We saw a lot of very famous guys for the role, a lot of very well-known people, and very, very good actors. We saw a lot of good performances, but it wasn’t until Chris came in and he read and I was like, ‘oh my God’, this guy has his own, very particular, amazing take on the character that blew my mind, blew me away. Then I thought, this is the first guy I could see sharing the screen with Robert Downey Jr. and giving him a run for his money."

^^^^
Seems like logical dots to me. The Korvac Saga takes place after Thanos is defeated by the Avengers so could Korvac Saga be a theme just for a hopeful GotG trilogy?

Interesting. According to Cosmic Book News, the original source of the Olivia Lovibond news has removed the part of the article that refered to her supposed role as the Collector's assistant. Inaccurate info, or info released to soon?
