    I assume that...

... had the South Korean leader not been allowed into the bunker that Dylan McDermott's treasonous secret service agent would have had to take out the other agents himself and then let them in the bunker, and/or they would have used hostages from outside the bunker such as the President's son to force them to open the bunker door.

Still implausible, but it's at least possibly addressed somewhat.

As far as the jingoism, how were you not aware that that would be an aspect of the film before seeing it? The slowly falling American flag and Morgan Freeman pep talk in the trailer and commercials didn't make that obvious? Or just the plot of the film itself, which would of course feature some patriotic things.

    The South Koream PM's
included Dylan McDermott, an ex-Secret Service agent who "lost faith." He had to be invited into the bunker along with the rest of the South Korean PM's security detail. As for planning to get in by using the President's son as a hostage, there was no way they could know that the boy would be a) present but b) not taken into the bunker with his father nor c) accidntally killed by aircraft fire, ricochets, friendly fire, etc.

The movie assumes that no other Secret Service agent than Gerard Butler would sacrifice a Presidential relative to save the President. For one, brief but wild, moment I wondered if the movie was going to be sincere in its characterization of Butler and show him killing the boy himself.

Love of one's countrymen is admirable. But I thought Olympus Has Fallen lapsed into the ersatz which demands hating and fearing other peoples. The main villain's murky motivations included joy in cruelty, envy of America's good fortune and similar jingo nonsense. Also, the absurd motivations of the secondary villain are posssibly even more symptomatic. As are the inhuman minions, who, unlike the Good People don't get upset when their comrades die. Whether this is objectionable is a matter of taste.

The President is a traitor and deserves to be executed.

Sure he didn't give up his Cerebus code, but the cryptogram breaking his cypher would have been irrelevant if the other two codes hadn't just been handed over because of some lite gentle threats.

The President should have killed the other two, or the other two should have killed him. One life in exchange for 300 million. Or 2, or 3 lives in exchange for 300 million?

How sad is it that Speed is a smarter movie than this?

In a situation where the hostage taker seems to have all the power, the first thing you do is shoot the hostages.

They say that the bunker is nuke proof.

    But is it?

    Is it really?

The Vice President should have nuked the white house once they realised that it was only a matter of hours until their arsenal was compromised, and seriously no one on the Yank team considered that they were accidentally inventing the Osterhagen Principles?

Fire ten nukes at Washington, save the country, and stop the invasion of South Korea.

The sheer WUSSINESS of this Administration, the utter lack of insanity or mania is just asking for further and similar attacks from more creatively enterprising young terrorists.

If no one believes that you are willing to destroy the world cause you're having a bad day, there's practically no point in having a hundred thousand nuclear bombs, and there's no point in "the other guy" kowtowing to a bully impotently threatening you into being civilized with nuclear weapons which he or she will never use.

    Oh?

Those machine guns that took out the choppers near the end? Where the fuck were they when that plane was mowing down civilians in the beginning?

Terrorists took Bartlett's daughter in he West Wing, he couldn't trust himself not to be wussy, so he tapped the 25th amendment, allowing John Goodman to walk in and Kill a bunch of people to restore order even if it meant someone was going to cut Zoey's head off and she would never get to star in Madmen.

    Hey?

Why not just use an EMP to frakk the computers inside the Bunker?

    Shit.

    No, no, it's shielded.

Really? because I think that you're making this shit up as you go along.

    Shut up.

Remember in Last resort (oh? No one watched that?) when Chinese Soldiers trying to capture the rogue US nuclear submarine by siege, accidentally slip what little fishing village they're from, and Adrian Brougher targets that little Chinese fishing village, then tells them to "fuck off" or their mommies and daddies are going to melt in fire hotter than the sun?

It's a question of who has the bigger hostage.

The Vice President should have started firing nukes at North Korea until Kang surrendered or he broke the Cerebus codes, oh it's a three headed dog, meanwhile as it stood, better the missiles blew up on their way to North Korea rather than in their silos.

    "Sigh".

Man I want to go to a parallel universe where the good Whitehouse under siege film got a sequel rather the poe-faced jingoistic one :(

Or at least the fun, entertaining one. Westminster Down, starring Channing Tatum, Jamie Foxx and Sean Bean as the ex SAS Prime Minister!

I quite liked OHF. Didn't see WHD.

It's a shame they didn't let Butler use his Scottish accent for this film and he could walk around London calling everyone a bunch of Sassenach bastards and throwing in the odd Glasgae kiss (i.e. headbutt).

I have watched them both and couldn't tell you which one is which. This is the insane one with the North Korean plane crashing on the lawn?

I've seen both. I found WHD quite dull in places and, like I say, a tad too serious. White House Down was stupid but a whole lot of fun!

Of course the depressing thing is both were better Die Hard films than Die Hard 5 :(

Olympus Has Fallen was the Koreans, White House Down was the Speaker of the House with the Nazis

Ohhh I remember now. Both were fun, I'm happier with this sequel though. I really don't like Channing Tatum.

I saw OHF with more of a Die Hard feel. While WHD followed the original Die Hard story more closely it had more of a late Lethal Weapon feel.

Looking at the trailer London Has Fallen looks more like WHD with the President attached to his Secret Service Agent, but since it seems like it will come in with a R rating again I guess will will get the head shots and blood splatter as in the first Fallen movie.

The arc in S7 of 24 where terrorists took over the White House was also a better Die Hard film than Die Hard 5.

Olympus Has Fallen is the fun, entertaining one for those of us who like war stories.

White House Down is the bullshit Roland Emmerich one for those of us who like to see Jamie Foxx trying to be a funny Obama.

    Yay, OHF sequel!
