Marvel All New, All Different - Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

I wouldn't be surprised if it was misdirection and something else was happening. Marvel is actually a little better at pulling this stuff off than DC is frankly, so they could very well pull something like that off.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

I could really care less about Angela. Did she stop appearing after the 90s?

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

Wait, what!!!

Angela, from Spawn. So in that link the copyright over who owns her is settled and Gaiman is loaning or selling her to Marvel? With her being in a 5 issue stint of GotG I wasn't sure if this was akin to Peter Davids character Fallen Angel. That started at DC but was apparently creator owned the whole time and he then took it to IDW.

Is this kinda like that or will Marvel now own Angela?
I don't have any real interest/nostalgia for the character, really more curious about the front office side of this.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

The article Allyn posted I believe explains the current rights situation regarding the character.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

It says that while Neil is writing for Marvel Angela will be around the Marvel Universe.
It doesn't explicitly say she is now fully part of the Marvel Universe, wholly owned by Marvel/Disney.
Hence my Peter David/Fallen Angel example.

According to Bleeding Cool, Gaiman owns Angela outright in the settlement with McFarlane. Gaiman could well retain copyright in the character with Marvel licensing it from him, or he could have sold the character to Marvel. The former, in my opinion, is more likely than the latter.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

Right, it's not a legal issue between Neil and McFarlane anymore. Angela and her angels are 100% Neil Gaimans and for awhile they'll be at Marvel.

It's unclear if they are licensing them or going to own them. But my thinking is, like Allyn stated, probably just leasing them while Neil is around in the Bullpen.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

Neil owns them, and is working for Marvel, so as you suggest...one could assume that yes they're on "loan" for the nature of the arc that he's co-writing with Bendis. It doesn't mean that Marvel themselves owns the characters. I was confused at first as to what you were getting at. My apologies Craig :)

It's good Admiral, we got on the same page for discussion in the end. :techman:
I can understand the short term business side of this(from their perspective).
They think it has PR value and will generate some additional buzz for GotG which also has a risky movie in the pipe.

Longterm I see it like the ROM issue. If Angela and her angels generates good-great stories then when they are gone it's a losing proposition. Like how Marvel keeps the Space Knights alive but deep down everyone really wants ROM back but Parker Brothers has the rights.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

Is Howard still leading the Fearsome Four?

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

I wouldn't be surprised if they made a comeback. The Microverse has been used in the last year in a few books...and Marvel did just bring back the New Universe in "Avengers" so anything is possible.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

Yeah, but I want the whole schbang, not just Rann, and Mari, and Bug. I want Acroyear and Biotron and Microtron and Baron Karza. Marvel would have to re-acquire the toy rights for that.

But I take what I get. I'm a Micro-mark. I even bought that crappy Son of Hulk mini a few years ago because of the Micro's appearance.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

I saw a mention of Dire Wraiths recently, does that foretell a return of Rom?

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

No, Marvel owns the Dire Wraiths outright. They also own the Spaceknights, they own Galador and everything else that was introduced in Rom. The only thing that they don't own is Rom himself.

However, Rom did appear at the wedding of Rick Jones and Marlo Chandler, albeit in his non-armored form.

Re: Marvel Now/ReEvolution Ongoing Discussion (Spoilers)

They are never going to make Rom toys again ever.

Marvel must insultingly low ball them every couple years.
