I'm in a lull as far as STO. I play SWTOR for 30-45 mins. Participated in the NW betas. Once it goes live though, I'll probably just play occasionally. DnD style games aren't fun for me unless I'm with a group.

I recently acquired the Ferengi D'Kora Marauder. It's a fun little ship, and the fact that it has all the DOFF assignments, bank, exchange, mail and even a dabo table on the bridge just add to the fun of it all. I've made it a cannon boat, loaded with fleet MK XII DHC, quad cannons, and fleet Mk XII photon torpedoes. I did the grind to get the ship, now comes the grind to get enough lobi to purchase the three set pieces. I haven't switched ships in a while, and doing so adds a new element to the grind.

Been spending the time just accumulating marks, dilithium and EC to further kit out my ships, particularly on the KDF side. And to keep contributing bits to the star bases and embassies. And also to get a little zen to unlock more doff roster spaces.

But I've also played next to no foundry missions, and am thinking of playing stuff in there now.

Not sure what's going on with the Exocomp DOFF. One character was able to pick it up and another wasn't (neither character had it before).

Recently, I've been seeing many claims on the STO forums of science vessels such as the Vesta or cruisers like the Regent hitting 8k to 10k dps in STFs, mostly in ISEs.

So I have been trying to get similar results with my ships. My aim is lower, I know that the above average escort does 6k to 7k dps so I would be happy if I can nudge my science vessel or cruiser to above average levels and get 5k to 6k dps. However, regardless of how I try, what equipment I get the best result I can get is around 4.2k dps. Anyone know what I am doing wrong or are these forum posters just exaggerating their claims?

I've seen a couple of those threads. Seems like there is some way to add to your DPS by attacking things that won't die. Useless DPS, so to speak, like you would get by attacking the gate before both transformers are blown. Or attacking a transformer with all the gennies still active, or if it's being healed by a nanite sphere.

I definitely think they're jobbing it in some way to inflate their numbers.

I'll prepare for the disappointment. ;)

One area they don't skimp on is hype. Following through on the hype, and the expectations it creates? Not as much. And you can be sure that whatever they DO release, they'll have thought out poorly, and they won't be back to tweak it, unless it's working ok, in which case, expect the nerf :)

What are we expecting for the announcement? We know "not-Season 8" is coming, which in theory will have new zone, new missions, etc. Maybe a Romulan faction, but since they can't even figure out TWO factions, not sure 3 will be an improvement. Maybe actually focusing on content, or endgame, or finishing Klingon faction? Safe bet is probably a shiny new $25 ship we can buy (or 3 variants for $50)...

I don't know, the new romulan area was MUCH more than I expected (but then I have low expectations).

If they are releasing a Romulan faction (which seems pretty likely), It'll probably be a subfaction to KDF & Feds. If lucky they might get a few exclusive missions, but a lot of it will probably be Fed and KDF content, depending on which side you pick.

Well, actual DPS is calculated by damage directly to the hull, damage to shields doesn't really count.
That's why damage numbers are low against shielded targets and go up significantly when shields drop.

So it is very possible to get 10k damage numbers with a cruiser or sci vessel, if you build around bypassing/disabling shields as best as possible.

DEM3, Transphasics, target shields, etc... the usual stuff.

Doesn't mean you will be able to kill quickly or at all.

If you continually get your damage past shields you will have high dps but the target may be able to outheal you still, since you can't do the damage quickly enough to overcome it's healing abilities.

And it's a playable Romulan faction!

Let the madness begin.

I will cetrtainly return to tr out the new Romulan faction (Subcommander So'tori finally gets to wear real Romulan colors!)

Curious to know how much unique content they get.

They will be able to start at level 1 (as will the Klingons finally).

So the expansion contains 150% faction content supposedly.
This is gonna be huge!

Work has that site locked out.

Are these 'New Romulus' Romulans who have to choose a side after a time, or are these Romulan Empire Romulans who will be foes of the other two factions?

And do they start at level 1 or 20 like the Klingons? And if they do start at level 1, does that site mention anything about Klingons?

Both the Romulans and the Klingons will be starting at 1 now. It looks like they are the Romulans loyal to Sela and not the New Romulans

I think Cryptic made a smart move here. This expansion will bring in new players and make old players return. Here is my guess as to what this new "expansion" will actually contain.

Romulan Academy - Starting area for romulan players, much like Starfleet Academy and Klingon Academy. If Cryptic is cheap, they might just adapt the current New Romulus map with Academy services.

New Romulus City - Social area for romulan players, much like ESD and Qo'noS. Cryptic will make this from scratch.

Warbirds - This is probably going to be the trickiest bit of the expansion for Cryptic to implement. If it is a full Romulan Faction, Cryptic will need to prepare at least 45 ship-variants (3 free ship classes for every 10 levels, 3 variants for each ship). There are already a handful of Romulan ships so they can adapt those. They will probably add the current Hirogen ships to further cut down the number of ships they have to model from scratch. If Cryptic is smart, they will create new Reman ship classes inspired by the Scimitar from ST:Nemesis (please let it be transformable) and perhaps even Nero's mining ship Narada from the Star Trek relaunch movie.

Missions - My guess is they'll add between 10 to 25 new missions, most of them will be shared between the new Romulan players and to pad the KDF missions.

UI Refresh - I won't call it a UI Revamp because they're clearly retaining most of the current UI, just adding tweaks here and there. The only UI that will see major change is the new character creation UI and possibly the tailor UI.

Tholian Reputation - This is the easiest and simplest for Cryptic to implement. I'm sure they'll leave this to the last minute and the rewards will be half-implemented and half-tested at launch, just like the Romulan Reputation rewards.

Foundry - I expect no improvements here. I raised a bug last month where one of their dialog editors had a limit of 100 characters instead of 1000 characters. It clearly just requires someone to go in and add a 0 somewhere and yet one month later, Cryptic's reply (yesterday) is "We have just confirmed the bug, it's been put on the to fix list". My guess is they've frozen the Foundry code till NWN has launched, so at best all we can expect is the addition of new Romulan/Reman assets to the foundry.

Well I'm pretty bord with my Fed toons at the moment, I literally just got to Brig General with my Klingon, the grind slightly hellish...

I'll check it out but reserve the right to let the little Rommi languish as my Kling toon has!

Could be fun, new content and all...
