I forget who said it, but last year someone from the movie said the villian could be (five names), and then said, actually it is one of them.

I was just thinking about that and wanted to know who those choices were. I tried to do a search but all the words "actually its one of them" are generic words and the search tool automatically removes them, so I've been left with no choice but to create a new thread.

thinking villian could be Harry Mudd if he was one of those choices considering the countdown comic #3 info

    Excellent. Thanks!

"It’s definitely a character that will make fans of TOS excited. Think along the lines of Harry Mudd or Trelane or Gary Mitchell or the Talosians or the Horta. Actually it’s one of those that I named. "

    Well...

Harry Mudd was a comic relief foil, rather than a diabolical villain out to destroy the Federation. I can't see them going there. However, Harry's daughter has been introduced in the comic prequel series, so there is some connection. I suppose one could interpret "Harrison" literally as "Son of Harry." But even then, I think it's a stretch.

Harrison being Harry Mudd would be far too anti-climatic.

Say it were one of two from the pictured choices; Mudd or Trelane. Which do you get more excited about?

At this point, I'm leaning toward prefering that They just leave it as a new character...

Wouldn't mind seeing another TOS figure as a minor character in the movie though... like Mudd.

The whole Alternate Timeline is a delusion of Pike in his blinky chair. ;)

a Gary Mitchell in star fleet who possibly never made it onto the Enterprise in this time line could make sense.

Nah, we've been through that one. They wouldn't have bothered approving, then wasting, the character for the IDW comic. Only to have to reintroduce him.

Im less certain about it than I used to be, but I did bring up why appearing in the comic may have made it more likely, not less. Also if that statement made by the source is true, it's not Khan and the other choices seem not to fit what we've seen of the movie so far.

I'm still sure it's not Khan though it may be related to Khan in some way.

    Harry Mudd.

I figure it would be a new take / re-imaging of him.
So instead of a fat jolly con man....he would be a dark, saddistic, terrorist and an arms dealer for any world that would pay the right price...even if it was to a civiliazation that was pre-warp and shouldnt have futuristic weapons, i.e. how countdown is playing out

Have they actually shown Harry in the comics yet.
I know about his daughter, just wondered if He's shown up yet.

As a con man, it would be just like him to assume another name to fool the authorities.

Doesn't seem as far fetched as Khan at this point either.

Was Harry considered to be 'British English' in TOS???

Harry himself has not appeared, but Capt April mentions him ("Your father") while talking to Mudd.

Yes, he had a slight accent. I had the passing idea that Harrison could be "Harri-son = Harry's Son"... but I think that would be sort of lame, would upset the fans, and confuse the general audience (He's who's son? Why should we care?).

I'm intrigued by the Talosians idea. Harrison could be a Talosian or be representing them -- An altered human or perception altered Talosian doing their bidding for some Talosian plot. We know that they can cure physical deformities, which is a theme explored in the film trailers. The "behind glass" imagery is conversely reminiscent with scenes from that pilot episode. A Captain Pike connection. Even a screaming Alice Eve fits the bill, is she being mind tortured similarly as they did Vina?

In the Cage, their Talosian planet is in ruins, do they blame Starfleet? Humanity? Or just all other space faring lifeforms... what would you do for family?

They can alter perceptions, and enjoy pitting us "lesser lifeforms" against each other, pushing emotional buttons to reveal humanities true nature. Causing a inner Starfleet conflict would be right up their alley. Maybe Kirk possibly breaking the prime directive brings attention, and perhaps, inspires the powerful Talosians to test the Earth men's hubris as we boldly go further into space. This would be a fabulous concept, to explore Trek's very first adversaries.

    I hope it's this.

Probably Robert April dies in the fourth issue of the comics and his son Harrison (serving as an agent in Starfleet) comes to know about his father being alive all these years and how he was helping an endangered race achieve freedom. Harrison holds Starfleet responsible for his father’s death.
