Ok, can't stay long this week so I'm just popping in to drop a "ground effect vehicle" into the contest; I give you The Monster from the Caspian Sea, The Ekranoplan. [YT]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8Nu94khHoo[/YT] Sure, it was developed for the military and *dang* I did it again didn't I? -the version in the avatar is clearly a militarized version -or did soviet civilian transports carry missiles? Ok, gove me some more hours (a day?) and I'll find a nice image of a people-transport Ekranoplan... like the one in the video...
PAL-V, a fully "convertible" hybrid between a two-seated-motorcycle/car and a gyrocopter (an aircraft that looks like a helicopter but behaves like an airplane). Essentially, the closest we have to a personal flying car/drivable aircraft.
would one that got planned and that was built as a model but never as an actual vehicle count as fictional?
ah, a pity. I had hoped I could use one of DaVinci's inventions. But here comes a German means of transport who's descendant I employ on an almost daily base
not really, but thanks for the inspiration. Orac, cool pic! I had toyed with the idea of using the Hindenburg but couldn't find an image remotely as good as yours
Haha, I had thought of the Hindenberg too but decided to go with the QMII instead. Maybe it would make for a great theme itself though, ie catastrophic disasters.
OK, the entry period is closed. Thanks to all who submitted, some really great stuff there. Poll thread coming soon.
