This Year's Model: ALBUM COVERS!

Australis

So, as Zion once said, a fun and highly creative internet game that's been around for a while, and also featured on Miscellaneous on a number of occasions. Basically it goes like this, for those who don't know:

1) Go to Wikipedia and select a random page, or use this link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The title (ignoring any disambiguation suffixes) of the first random Wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.

2) Get a random quotation from this page (NB it may produce pop-up ads)
http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four or five words of the very last quotation of the page is the title of your first album.

3) Go to flickr and click on "explore the last seven days" as per below:
http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days/
The THIRD picture along, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

4) a random name generator for song titles. Suggested use:
http://watchout4snakes.com/CreativityTools/RandomWord/RandomPhrase.aspx
Set the generator to adjective - very common, noun - very common, or noun, noun, that seems to give the best results.

As they say in the classics, I'll start.

Tracks:
Tough Pants
Returning Dinner
Combining Fear
Attention Hack
Impossible Assistant
Two Naming
Relative Company
Replacement Close Partner
Crash Hypocrite
Isolated Refrain
Bonus track: Admitted Confectionery

Simolius have a new album out, Nothing Whatever To Do With It, which has a 'more of the same' vibe to it.

While tracks like Two Naming and Attention Hack have a crunchy, neo-rock feel, and Isolated Refrain is haunting, the rest of the album doesn't live up to that potential. Since it was cut, the band has replaced lead singer Orville Nye and bassist Tim Blatt and are back in the studio working on what they call "a new sound".

This isn't one of the better ones. My favourite is the one below, from 2009.)

Tracks:
Otherwise Writer
Constant Lock
Paid Discipline
Forward Deal pt 1
Forward Deal pt 2
Using Plastic
Close Written
Hotel Earth
Medium Movie
Population Model
Opening Arrangement
Closer Reader
Little Broadcast

The Ability To Enjoy It was an album ahead of its time. The moody electronica of Constant Lock, the speedy synth thrash of Population Model, the plaintive love song Opening Arrangements, the new space rock of Hotel Earth, and the hard hitting solid bass end thump of Little Broadcast (reminiscent of ZZ Top's Antenna Head played by Ultravox) showcase a band at their most inventive and most eclectic. A standout was the acoustic Close Written, and its synth mirror image, Closer Reader. Why this album wasn't given better support by the record label remains a mystery to this day
(Wow, the phrase generator was on fire! I might have to write some of those songs. :) )

I'm getting...80s/90s vibe? Grunge?

album.jpg

Hard Firecracker
Reckless Cop
Setbacks At The Steering Wheel
Secret Fairness
Respect Your Thoughts
Imperfections Follow Me Everywhere
Surprise Time
Burning Nature
Smells Like Compromise
Step Away From The Hand Grenade

I have no skillz with photoshop or any other picture manipulating programs so this is going to have to be text only:

Hackerence - "A Rough Lump Of Marble"

Songs:
Meaning Wild
Precise Opening
Just Expression
Hearing Complexity
Resulting River
Harmful Stable
Secure Greatest
Displayed Port
Growing Behalf
Safe Hardware
Grave Broadcasting
Forgotten Conference
Stopping Gasoline
Reverse Subset

(quite a diversity of sonic tapestries on this album. From the country/metal fusion of "Harmful Stable" to the environmental activism of "Stopping Gasoline", to the Rammstein-influenced calypso of "Grave Broadcasting," there's something in there for everyone. Although "Safe Hardware" did make the band subject to accusations of selling out for a commercial jingle.)

The random song title generator link gave me an error 400.

I found another site though. I admit I did come up with the titles for tracks 4 & 5 myself. They seemed fitting.

2. Signalling Background
3. Banzai Fairness
4. Shh Forgotten
5. Beyond Bulk
6. Into Shortfall

I think i win the 'most unwieldy group name' award. And i want to hear both Raw Comfiness and Beyond Bulk

^And I'd like to hear Shh Forgotten.

Widely unknown outside Scandinavia, the Swedish band Mukim-Mukim, are with the English-language version of their début album För ett rent samvete. giving an international audience a taste of their raw, yet melodic, mix of highly danceable traditional Nordic folk-music and Country & Western tunes. The Sci-Fi inspired social comment in the lyrics might not be to everyone's taste -but they are hilarious!

Tracklist:
  1. comparatively strong move
  2. after efficient host rejection
  3. overwhelming plus
  4. sneak market classification
  5. subtle damp joint
  1. lesbian exit
  2. beyond agreeing now
  3. expired quiz
  4. about scientifical farewell processing

^Yup, that phrase generator has some weird shit going on

Personally, I'm rather fond of expired quiz - all about quizzes on television.

2. Celery Aversion
3. Entirely Dick
4. Of Valued Whorl

3. Distant Congratulation
4. Useless Touch
5. National Bugger
6. Mistake Bloody Boat
7. Body Compiler
8. Internal Luxury
9. Whirlingly Approaching Intermix

i reckon Palomar Observatory (brilliant name, if i start a band i'll name it that) would sound like depressing emo-indie music

Eleven soft-metallic tracks about the non-existence of deities... well it's better than Hosanna! Musics album... even if that isn't saying much.

ComeHealThisLand-Bearrogantaboutitalbumb.jpg

  • Situate Recursion
  • Invisible Feasibility
  • Naïve Sum
  • Neglected Gentleman

7. Refreshed Diet Ax
8. Ended Automated Situating
9. Stray Optic Action
10. Overnight Overdue Cause
11. Distorted Stimulated Rumor

(I was disappointed at the overt political content but I did enjoy the Kraftwerk-inspired country jazz of "Stray Optic Action" and the Middle Eastern influenced a cappella swing of "Condensed Milk Pi.")
