That is a neat image. I guess she's going after more of the Lost Sith then?

Hopefully they do more than just pay lip service to this Sword of the Jedi thing. It was introduced what 10 years ago? And not much has been done with it.

I believe that it was introduced near the end of the New Jedi Order saga. Jaina kind of finally accepted the title during her training by Boba Fett prior to facing Jacen for the final time (I might be wrong, it's been a long time since I've read those books).

Luke bestowed the title upon her in Destiny's Way, published October 2002. So, yeah, it's been ten years since the title was introduced, and fuck all has been done to imbue it with any meaning beyond "Jaina is a badass." As if we even needed a special title to know that...

But even then, she's really NOT that much of a badass. Fun character, sure, but Hasn't really gone anywhere. Thing with Jag is fun, and she started to go somewhere with Boba Fett, but really she still takes a backseat to Luke whenever there's anything important going on.

And Ben's had most of the development screen time lately, so Jaina is just a support character at the most.

To justify this mysterious force-dream inspired title, would really need to see something. Implications behind being the Sword of the Jedi really implies a few things. Some crazy, elite-level skills (haven't seen anything unusual at all there), or usage of her as basically the weapon the Jedi send when they need something done. "Aggressive negotiation", a hit/extraction, or just a one-woman wrecking crew.

So far, she's just handy/tough in a fight, and has a little bit of a sneaky side which she got from Han. Aside from that, generic Jedi X. To justify the weight of that title, pretty much need her to take on a role similar to Mara's old job; the Jedi version of the Emperor's Hand...

Yeah, Jaina's character development has been severely undercut by Del Rey's insistence on pushing Ben as the new hero. Apparently you can only be the lead hero character if you're a male and your last name is Skywalker. :p

I find Ben's personality and character arc infinitely more interesting than Jaina's...

I think that might be so because Jaina has gotten such short shrift. I'm just glad that Fate of the Jedi writers remembered her and gave her more action and at least a big supporting role in taking on Abeloth. I wish that Legacy of the Force had been her coming out party, and even though her battle with Caedus was "the Duel" of that series, it was hampered by Jaina having to rely on Luke's assistance, after being 'taught' by Boba Fett.

I see Jaina as the Mace Windu of the New Jedi Order. I wish that they would let her really cut loose. Granted, Mace got less character development than she did, but at least we got to see some really cool moments, mostly from the Clone Wars microseries to be fair, that established how much of a badass he was.

LucasBooks Editor Jen Heddle recently addressed diversity in the EU. Here's a quote focusing on Sword of the Jedi:
Also, earlier this month, Aaron Allston hosted an X-Wing: Mercy Kill Q&A session at Dragon*Con. Here are a few select quotes not tied specifically to that book:

Yep, they have been for years now. It's a shame Dark Horse might not be handling the comic line in the future, because they've done an excellent job with it.
