Zack Snyder developing his own Star Wars movie?

I really love that ship design.

It looks like a slug with boobs.

While I'm certainly up for a Seven Samurai style film with Jedi, I have to wonder, "why now?"

Because Disney owns the franchise, paid 4 billion dollars for it, and will capitalize it up the wazoo. If only Star Trek would get as much attention as Star Wars is going to. We'll get a tsunami of movies, with the main characters and without, with the original actors as long as possible and also recast (probably at the same time, why wait?) plus more animated adventures on TV.

This one may be debunked but don't expect Disney to be shy about producing volume. There is a lot of pent-up demand, especially if you think globally. However, most likely they will focus on the brand name characters (you know who they are) and then start branching out.

I would usually get annoyed when thinking about stuff like this, but I think as long as the stuff is good, I don't mind. The SW is big enough, and diverse enough that I think it could easily support multiple movie/TV series.

Besides, there already was Battle Beyond The Stars.
I just watched that for the first time a couple months ago, and I thought it was pretty fun in a cheesy, B-grade movie kind of way.

This is exactly the sort of thing they SHOULD do with the franchise. Releasing a stand-alone adventure (directed by whoever wants to play in the Star Wars playground) in between each episode of the new trilogy would be a great way to keep their cash cow going without rushing production on the main series.

^I agree. And they should consider doing them in different time periods. Maybe a movie set 1000s of years before the prequels, maybe one with Yoda as a young Jedi, maybe one set between ROTS and ANH?

It is in fact what Disney has already said they want to do.

Like how they have the individual hero movies and then they all get together for The Avengers, it seems The Mouse has similar ideas for Star Wars.

While I'm certainly up for a Seven Samurai style film with Jedi, I have to wonder, "why now?" They have three sequel films to make, so why announce something that probably won't hit for seven to nine years? That is assuming, of course, this is legit.

The prequel trilogy should have been Seven Samurai to begin with. Or Three Musketeers. With Anakin as a D'Artagnan type hero who wants to join the Jedi order and becomes friends with a couple of Jedi Knights, joins them in the fight against an evil Sith Lord who's an ill advisor to the Chancelor and wants to destroy the Jedi order.

I'm surprised that George Lucas didn't model it after all these cloak-and-sword swashbuckler films, because that's basically what it should have been.
