All anthology series are erratic. That is I think one reason why real series with continuing characters generally win steadier audiences: You know what you're getting.

The original Twilight Zone and Outer Limits had plenty of bad episodes, and the contintuations had plenty of good ones. (Well, perhaps not the Ira Steven Behr iteration.) So a new Twilight Zone would likely have a lot to offer, even if a modern version would almost certainly totally eschew SF and humor in favor of horror in fantasy mode.

Comedy pilots from Amazon Prime include a couple genre shows.

Dark Minions
Written by Big Bang Theory co-stars Kevin Sussman and John Ross Bowie, Dark Minions is an animated workplace series about two slackers just trying to make a paycheck working an intergalactic warship

Supanatural
Supanatural is an animated comedy series about two outspoken divas who are humanity’s last line of defense against the supernatural, when they’re not working at the mall.

Neither sounds like anything I'll be signing up for Amazom Prime for...

It's a subscription service that gets you free two day shipping on all items and access to Amazon's streaming service.

Dark Minions sounds somewhat interesting, but I'd need to see a pilot before dedicating any real time to it.

Time traveling FBI agent series at ABC

Feature director Brett Ratner and Law & Order veteran Barry Schindel have teamed for Tomorrow, a drama project at ABC financed by Reliance’s Georgeville Television, the independent TV studio formed last spring by Motion Picture Capital’s Leon Clarance and Deepak Nayar and producer Marc Rosen.

Like all Georgeville projects, Tomorrow, now in development, has a script-to-series commitment, meaning that if ABC likes the script it would trigger a 13-episode series order. Created and written by Katherine Lindberg and Ted Cyr, Tomorrow is a high-concept law enforcement procedural about an FBI agent who gets trapped in a time travel scenario. Ratner, who is set to direct, and Schindel, who serves as showrunner, executive produce with Lindberg, Cyr and Anonymous Content’s Michael Sugar and Nicole Romano.

Bloodline gets pilot order at NBC.

Bloodline, which reflects Graziano’s love of pulp, graphic novels and ancient mythology, is a contemporary pulp action thriller in the vein of Kill Bill. Set against the backdrop of modern suburbia, it follows the story of an orphaned young girl, Bird Benson, who, due to an accident of birth, is caught in the epic struggle between two warring families of mercenaries and killers. Mentored by a mysterious Chinese man, Bird must accept the quest to find and defeat her mother in mortal combat if she is ever to lead a normal life.

Wayward Pines miniseries in contention at FOX.

Based on the best-selling novel Pines by Blake Crouch, Wayward Pines is an intense, mind-bending thriller evocative of the classic cult hit Twin Peaks. Secret Service agent Ethan Burke arrives in the bucolic town of Wayward Pines, ID, on a mission to find two missing federal agents. But instead of answers, Ethan’s investigation only turns up more questions. What’s wrong with Wayward Pines? Each step closer to the truth takes Ethan further from the life he knew, from the husband and father he was, until he must face the terrifying reality that he may never get out of Wayward Pines alive.

However if FOX can only do one miniseries in 2014, I'm rooting for Blood Brothers, a Civil War epic that sounds like a remake of North & South and despite the title, apparently involves no vampires. And my hunch is, that topic would do better for FOX. The market for supernatural horror is getting pretty glutted.

I think Bloodlines has been listed here before. Wayward Pines does sound derivative of Twin Peaks, but that's not necessarily bad-- it's really not a concept that has been sucked as dry as so many others.

Another genre series in a historical setting, this time from Showtime:

The psychosexual horror project, titled Penny Dreadful, has received a series commitment, with production eyed to begin in London in the second half of 2013. The show will feature some of horror literature’s most famous characters – including Dr. Frankenstein and his creature, Dorian Gray and Dracula – as they become embroiled in Victorian London.

Ooooh "psychosexual."

Penny Dreadful does sound like it has possibilities. Nice title, too-- Penny Dreadfuls were the precursors to the Pulps. Also, we have a local "Horror Host" here down in Bridgewater who uses that name-- nice publicity for her.

Stephen King had been sitting on the idea for decades, but it wasn't until two years after the Simpsons movie that he turned it into something worth showing (probably because he was too busy re-releasing his old novels under a new name).
